In this recent case study by Elbimar Esqueda Azpiroz (MD), a 76-year-old male, former smoker, presented to the emergency room with left-sided pleuritic chest pain and hyporexia with unquantified weight loss over approximately two weeks. He also reported a two-month history of progressive dyspnea, which had worsened over the preceding 15 days. He denied fever, cough, sputum production, or hemoptysis. A thoracoabdominal CT scan demonstrated a small, loculated left pleural effusion with multiple heterogeneous pleural-based implants involving the left hemithorax. There was associated partial atelectasis of the adjacent lung parenchyma although distinction from pleural disease was limited. A core needle biopsy of a pleural implant at the cardiophrenic angle was subsequently performed. Comment below!
