As of July 1, 2026, lead testing is required for all Illinois children at ages 12 and 24 months, as well as when certain circumstances apply. Under Illinois state law, blood tests that come back with confirmed lead levels in excess of 3.5 micrograms per deciliter require a public health intervention including involvement of a public health nurse and home inspection.

The Greene County Health Department offers convenient fingerstick lead testing. For an appointment, please call 217-942-6961 ext. 4122.

UV Safety – Do you spend a lot of time in the sun?

What should you look for?

Not all skin cancers look the same. In fact, skin cancers can show up in many shapes and sizes. Sometimes they might even look like other skin conditions.

Many skin cancers are more common on parts of the body that tend to get more sun, such as the face, head, neck, and arms. But skin cancers can occur anywhere on the body.

Some of the more common ways in which skin cancers can appear include:
A new, expanding, or changing growth, spot, or bump on the skin
A sore that bleeds and/or doesn’t heal after several weeks
A rough or scaly red patch, which might crust or bleed
A wart-like growth
A mole (or other spot on the skin) that’s new or changing in size, shape, or color
A mole with an odd shape, irregular borders, or areas of different colors
But it’s important to understand that these are not the only ways skin cancer can appear.

The article below shows you How to Do a Skin Self-Exam. Be safe!

Around 50,000 people die from it annually, making it the second leading cause of cancer-related death when men and women are combined.

Screening recommendations now start at 45 instead of 50. If you think it's time, give us a call to learn more about how we can help! (217) 942-6961 ext 4110
