Apparently if you’re obsessed enough about an idea, eventually it becomes a business…

…and today we celebrate Refinery turning TWO.

Two years of betting on myself.
Two years of building something from the ground up.
Two years of learning, evolving, creating, injecting, treating, educating and occasionally wondering what I got myself into.

Refinery is so much more than a business. It’s a space where women (and men) come to feel like themselves, just a little fresher. Where we can talk about skin, aging, confidence, motherhood, life… all of it.

I’m incredibly proud of what Refinery has become, but even more excited about where we’re going.

The best skin advice is usually the least exciting. It’s also the stuff that works.

Habits I’d steal from a nurse practitioner who specializes in skin:

Wear the SPF. Every. Single. Day.
Not just when it’s sunny. Not just on vacation. Daily UV exposure adds up and prevention will always be easier than trying to correct years of damage later.

Never sleep in your makeup.
I don’t care how tired you are. Cleanse your skin, protect your barrier, and give your nighttime products a chance to actually do their job.

Take care of your skin before there’s a problem. Pigment, texture, collagen loss and fine lines are much easier to stay ahead of than reverse. Consistency > correction.

Invest in your skin health not random treatments. More treatments ≠ better skin. A thoughtful treatment plan + evidence-based skincare + consistency will get you much further than jumping from trend to trend.

And please… stop your skincare at your chest, not your chin.
Your neck, décolleté and hands are exposed to the same UV radiation and environmental stressors as your face and they’re often some of the first areas to show aging. Bring your antioxidants, retinoid (when appropriate), moisturizer and SPF down. Treat these areas in-office when needed, too.

Good skin doesn’t come from one expensive treatment or one miracle product. It’s built from the boring things you do over and over and over again.

Prevention. Consistency. Intention.

The Goal: Neurotoxin temporarily reduces the communication between nerves and targeted muscles. Less repetitive muscle movement means less folding of the skin—and softer expression lines over time.

The Treatment: Small, precise injections are placed into specific facial muscles based on your anatomy, movement patterns, and aesthetic goals.

The Options: Different neurotoxins have slightly different characteristics. At Refinery, we offer Dysport, Jeuveau, and Daxxify, allowing us to customize treatment to you.

The Areas: Neurotoxin can be used throughout the face, neck, etc, but some of the most commonly treated areas include the forehead, frown lines between the brows, and crow’s feet around the eyes.

The Bigger Picture: Neurotoxin isn’t about eliminating every expression, it’s about strategically reducing repetitive movement that can eventually turn dynamic lines into lines that remain visible at rest.

The Schedule: Most people return for a treatment every 3-4 months to keep the smooth look.

The Aftercare: No exercise or extreme heat (i.e. hot yoga, sauna, steam room, hot tub, etc) and do not rub, compress or massage your face.

Lesson one: beauty is allowed to be fun.
Lesson two: wanting to look good isn’t shallow.
Lesson three: “natural” is an option, not a requirement.
Lesson four: maintenance is a lifestyle.
Final exam: look in the mirror and still recognize yourself—just feeling a little more you.
