Plot twist: your 30s and 40s can bring more acne than your teenage years ever did.

June is Acne Awareness Month so we are talking about adult acne.

In your 30s, pregnancy, postpartum hormonal crashes, stopping birth control, and chronic stress can all trigger breakouts (even for those that didn’t have acne as teens.

In your 40s, perimenopause causes estrogen to drop and androgens to rise, sending oil production into overdrive.

Adult acne at this stage is deeper, more cystic, slower to heal, and concentrated along the jaw and chin.

If you’re breaking out in your 30s or 40s it is because your body is going through major changes. You don’t have to just live with it and you’re definitely not too old to treat it.
