Health officials and politicians are disputing Pennsylvania’s reported measles deaths as experts warn rising infections pose a growing public threat.

The Hawaii State Department of Health is reporting that a wastewater sample from Hawaiʻi County has tested positive for dengue virus. The sample was collected Aug. 24, 2026, at the Hilo wastewater treatment plant and DOH was notified of the result Aug. 31, 2026. A follow-up sample was collected on August 31; those results are pending.

Six patients died with measles-like symptoms in 24 hours until 8:00am today, bringing the country's combined tally of confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths to 908 this year.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has classified all six latest fatalities as suspected measles deaths.

With this, the total number of suspected measles deaths has reached 809, while confirmed deaths from measles have remained the same at 99.

A total of 1,021 new suspected measles cases were reported during the 24-hour period, bringing the cumulative number of suspected cases nationwide to 142,797.
