GI Partners of Illinois is proud to welcome Dr. Madhu Mathew, who will join the organization as a Physician Partner in September 2026. Dr. Mathew will also be the newly appointed Director of Healthcare Communication and Public Engagement for the organization.
Dr. Mathew is a board-certified gastroenterologist with specialized training in Gastroenterology and Advanced Hepatology. She earned her medical degree from Government Medical College, Trivandrum, Kerala University, India, and completed her Internal Medicine residency at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in Chicago. Her fellowship training includes an Advanced Hepatology fellowship from the University Hospitals of Columbia & Cornell in New York and a Gastroenterology fellowship from Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Michigan, with dual academic affiliations with Michigan State University and the University of Michigan.
Beyond her clinical expertise, Dr. Mathew has been actively involved in physician leadership, medical education, and public-facing health initiatives. She was selected for the inaugural 2023–2024 cohort of the American College of Gastroenterology Emerging Leaders Program and has held national committee roles with the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE). Dr. Mathew’s expertise has extended to national media through her work as a Medical Contributor with the ABC News Medical Unit, including appearances on Good Morning America to address timely health and medical issues. Her academic work includes multiple peer-reviewed publications and scientific presentations in gastroenterology and hepatology.
As a gastroenterologist with GI Partners of Illinois, Dr. Mathew will provide comprehensive digestive and liver care to patients in the community. In her additional role as Director of Healthcare Communication and Public Engagement, she will help advance patient and community education, physician engagement, healthcare communication, and public outreach—furthering GI Partners of Illinois’ commitment to accessible, high-quality digestive healthcare.
