BIG NEWS IN DIABETES TECH
The FDA just authorized the first wearable that continuously monitors BOTH glucose AND ketones.
The FreeStyle Libre Duo 10 Day from Abbott.
Why is this important?
Until now, people at risk for diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) have generally needed to check ketones separately with a blood or urine ketone test that gives you a single point-in-time measurement.
This new technology continuously monitors glucose and ketones every minute and can alert users at risk of DKA when ketones reach a concerning level.
Why I’m excited about this!
DKA can develop quickly.
Being able to see that ketones are rising, rather than discovering an elevated ketone level from a single test, could provide an opportunity for earlier action and medical intervention.
The device is FDA-authorized for people 2 years and older with diabetes.
When will it be available?
The FDA authorization was announced August 25, 2026. Abbott has not yet announced a specific U.S. commercial launch date, so stay tuned for availability details.

NEWS: The FDA has authorized the first wearable sensor that continuously tracks ketone levels, along with blood sugar (glucose), in a single, wearable device.
For people living with diabetes, rising ketone levels can be an early warning sign of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) — a serious and potentially life-threatening complication. This device checks ketone levels and glucose levels every minute and sends alerts if they reach concerning levels, giving you and your caregivers more time to act.
The device is authorized for individuals as young as 2 years, making it an option for families managing diabetes in children. https://www.fda.gov/news-events/press-announcements/fda-authorizes-first-wearable-device-continuously-monitors-both-ketone-levels-and-blood-sugar
