The third and final intern we're highlighting is Lucy Kilbane! Lucy joins our Workforce team, assisting with our upcoming TAP Health Summer Academy (THSA).

Q: We're excited to have you this summer. Tell us more about you!
My name is Lucy Kilbane, and I will be a senior this fall at Ohio University, where I am studying Health Services Administration with minors in Marketing and Business Administration. I am originally from Cincinnati and have a strong passion for healthcare and community engagement.

Q: Is there anything you're looking forward to most with this internship?
As someone originally from Cincinnati, I am especially excited to continue exploring the city from a healthcare and community-focused perspective. I am also really looking forward to meeting and working closely with the THSA students, building relationships within the community, and gaining hands-on experience that will help me grow both personally and professionally.

Through my experiences in leadership and healthcare-related environments, I have learned how to adapt quickly, collaborate with different groups of people, and create welcoming and supportive spaces. Everyone from The Health Collaborative has been incredibly welcoming and supportive, and I'm excited to bring all my energy, creativity and enthusiasm to the team this summer.

Q: Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?
In five years, I hope to be working in the healthcare field in a role that allows me to
combine my interests in healthcare administration, community outreach, and leadership. I am especially interested in areas that focus on improving patient and community experiences, and I hope to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

Any favorite activities outside of work?
I enjoy spending time with friends and family, traveling, trying new restaurants and coffee shops, staying active, and being involved on campus and in my community. I also enjoy creative outlets like social media, marketing, and planning events, as well as relaxing with music, movies, or spending time outdoors. I also love to travel to places that feel rich in tradition and community; Italy is at the top of my travel list!

The next intern we're highlighting is on our Workforce Innovation team. Jessica Sexton is one of two interns who will be working with our TAP Health Summer Academy (THSA) - our robust healthcare career exploration program for high school students that launches its 2026 class, next week!

Q: Tell us more about yourself and what you're looking forward to this summer with The Health Collaborative.
I am currently getting my Master of Public Health with a concentration in Health Services Management at the University of Cincinnati. I have a passion for all things public health and healthcare, so I am hoping to share my knowledge for those curious about the public health field. I am really looking forward to visiting all the (THSA) sites and getting to know the awesome students in the program!

Q: What do you hope to get from your internship with us?
I did not know how large of an impact the organization had on the community. After attending my first all-staff meeting, it really opened my eyes to the amazing work The Health Collaborative is doing in the region. Five years from now I am hoping to be settled into a career and doing something I am passionate about, particularly with rural health work. As such, I hope to gain experience and connections, especially when I start to look for jobs towards the end of the year.

Q: Outside of interning with us, what are your favorite activities and do you have any places you want to travel?
I love to read, go on walks, hang out with my cats and my friends, play video games, and just be outside whenever possible! I would love to travel to Japan. The shopping, food, and culture seem so amazing and I hope to one day experience it for myself.

This summer, The Health Collaborative has 3 incredible students joining us as interns! They each bring something unique to the organization and we were happy to catch up with them to learn more about how their interests align with ours. First up, Meet Anna Birck, an intern on the Community Health team.

Q: Anna B., what are you most looking forward to with this internship?
I’m super excited to be a part of The Health Collaborative this summer! I am a Master of Public Health student at the University of Alabama, but I am from Cincinnati. I am excited to be back here this summer working within the community that I grew up in. Some of the areas of public health that most interest me are food security and maternal and infant health, but I love learning about many new and relevant topics.

Q: What are some of the things you’ll be working on while you’re here?
I’m excited to be implementing a communications plan for Community Health Improvement Week, as well as developing a content calendar to showcase all of our Community Health stories and projects. There’s so much incredible and impactful work happening across our region, and I’m really looking forward to helping share and celebrate it!

Q: What unique attributes do you think you will bring to the position?
I believe I bring a positive attitude, strong communication skills, and a genuine interest in building relationships. I’m eager to contribute, learn from others, and offer a fresh perspective while supporting the organization and its work in the community. I hope to grow more confident as I prepare to enter the workforce after graduating in August.

Q: What are your favorite activities outside of work?
I like going on long walks, reading, spending time with friends and family. Recently, I have been enjoying completing diamond art paintings!

Q: Here's a fun one we like to ask - If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?
I really want to go on an African safari to see all those wild animals firsthand. Another place I want to travel to is Greece. I love Mamma Mia and want to visit all of the different islands, as well as be by the beach!

Welcome, Anna!

Guess who we found highlighted in the Joint Commission's May newsletter? None other than Mercy Health's Kim Obermeyer! Kim Obermeyer has been a great partner during the Hospital Accreditation Committee Meetings held in our region, with one of our team members calling Kim "an absolute rockstar in this realm". We're happy to add our own thanks to her for her extensive knowledge, and are not surprised to see her nationally recognized.

DirectConnect 2026 was held at the Sabin Auditorium and led by Cincinnati Children's - with lots of support from THC! provides a forum for small, local, and underrepresented business to connect and learn, hearing perspective from leaders on how they can set themselves up for success.

The event opened with remarks from several individuals including Evie Alessendrini, Chief Operating Officer of Cincinnati Children's and our own Chief Engagement Officer, Tiffany Mattingly. In addition to wonderful sessions, a compelling keynote speaker, and time for networking and idea-sharing, our VP of Operations, Jill Collet, moderated a supplier innovation conversation with Cincinnati Children's leaders Nick Archer, Jennifer O"Neal Harris, and Dave Theus. The event was overall a tremendous success - congrats to Cincinnati Children's Jennifer O'Neal Harris and our own Alisa Lambert for making it happen.

Did you know the UC Health Trauma & Burn Center at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center is the region’s verified Adult Level I Trauma Center, and the only verified burn center in Greater Cincinnati?

Our Emergency Preparedness & Response team helped develop the critical Regional Burn Surge Annex in 2021. This month, Norton Children’s Hospital in Kentucky will host a trauma burn tabletop exercise, inviting UCMC and Cincinnati Children’s to participate. The Tri-State Disaster Preparedness Coalition (TSDPC) will also participate as a player, evaluating the current plan and procedures. The exercise will help ensure facilities and staff in our region are prepared for a pediatric burn surge.

This is just one example of the essential work happening collaboratively behind the scenes to keep our communities prepared for the unexpected.
