Karen’s Yoga Practice Tip: Learn about the ethical precepts of yoga
• In the eightfold path of yoga, the first principle is a set of ethical precepts known as the Yamas. B.K.S. Iyengar considers these principles to be absolutely crucial - the beginning and the end of yoga practice.
• The yamas provide guidance for how to relate to others in the most positive and harmonious way.
• The five yamas are non-violence, truthfulness, non-stealing, moderation of sensual desires, and non-greed.
• Read about the yamas in any translation and commentary of The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. Reflect on these principles and how they can influence your approach to your yoga practice and to daily living.
