This month, our Professional Learning Community time was spent studying The Blueprint for Leading From Where You Are as a DSP.
Now more than ever, the work of IDD needs leaders—not simply people with titles, but people with the commitment, purpose, compassion, and courage to lead from wherever they stand.
At The Bridge, leadership happens in the everyday moments.
It happens when a DSP recognizes potential before a participant sees it in themselves. It happens when we choose patience over frustration, remain teachable when we receive feedback, and refuse to lower expectations simply because someone has a disability. It happens when we intentionally teach, support, encourage, and create opportunities for greater independence.
Our DSPs are not simply responsible for providing a service. They have the opportunity to influence the trajectory of someone’s life.
That requires us to lead with empathy. Lead with competence. Lead with compassion. And most importantly, lead with the belief that every person we support is capable of continued growth.
You don’t need a title to lead. You need a commitment to helping people become the best versions of themselves.
That’s leadership. That’s impact. That’s The Bridge Way. 💙
