🧠 PTSD Changes the Brain. HBOT May Help the Brain Heal.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is not simply a mental health challenge—it is often associated with measurable changes in brain function, inflammation, blood flow, and cellular energy production.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) works by delivering oxygen under pressure, allowing oxygen to dissolve more effectively into the body's tissues, including the brain. This increased oxygen availability may help support:

✅ Improved brain blood flow
✅ Reduced neuroinflammation
✅ Enhanced cellular repair and recovery
✅ Better sleep quality
✅ Improved focus and concentration
✅ Reduced anxiety and stress responses
✅ Greater emotional resilience

Many veterans, first responders, trauma survivors, and individuals struggling with PTSD have reported meaningful improvements in their quality of life following a series of HBOT sessions.

Healing is possible. Hope is real.

If you or someone you love is living with PTSD, learn how Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy may support the brain's natural healing process.

🧬 Can Oxygen Help You Age Better?

What if one of the most exciting longevity tools being studied today wasn't a drug, injection, supplement, or peptide...

What if it was simply oxygen delivered under pressure?

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is gaining attention not just for recovery and healing, but for its potential role in healthy aging.

Recent research has shown some fascinating findings:

✅ Telomere Lengthening
Telomeres are the protective caps on the ends of our chromosomes and are considered a marker of cellular aging. In one study of healthy adults over age 64, participants completed 60 HBOT sessions over 3 months and experienced telomere increases of 20-38%.

✅ Reduction in Senescent ("Zombie") Cells
These aging cells stop functioning properly but refuse to die, contributing to inflammation and age-related decline. Researchers observed reductions of 11-37% following HBOT.

✅ Improved Brain Function
Studies have demonstrated improvements in attention, processing speed, and cerebral blood flow—important areas that often decline as we age.

🧠 How Does It Work?

Researchers believe HBOT creates what is known as the "Hyperoxic-Hypoxic Paradox." Repeated exposure to elevated oxygen levels followed by a return to normal oxygen levels stimulates the body's natural repair and regeneration mechanisms.

This process may activate pathways involved in:
• Blood vessel growth
• Cellular repair
• Reduced inflammation
• Improved oxygen delivery
• Tissue regeneration

Now for the important reality check...

These longevity studies were performed using higher-pressure clinical HBOT protocols and larger-scale research is still needed. While the science is incredibly promising, HBOT should not be viewed as a magic anti-aging cure.

What we do know is that HBOT has already helped many people improve recovery, healing, cognitive performance, energy levels, and overall wellness.

At Des Moines Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, we see HBOT as much more than a recovery tool. It's an investment in your health, your brain, and your future.

The question is no longer whether oxygen is essential to health...

The question may be: Are we getting enough of it where it matters most?

HBOT is FDA-approved for many conditions including tissue damage caused by radiation therapy. HBOT treatments that are FDA-approved are typically covered by insurance, making this treatment accessible for many individuals!

What is radiation damage?

Radiation therapy is used to treat tumors of all types, from tumors in the brain to those in the breast, prostate, uterus and gastrointestinal tract. Although radiation therapy is becoming more accurate and more successful in the treatment of cancer, there is still the potential that normal tissue is damaged in the process. This is called radiation damage, which may have a significant negative impact on a patient's quality of life.

The use of HBOT to treat radiation damage can heal the tissue by regenerating blood vessels, re-populating the damaged area with new stem cells, and accelerating all stages of wound healing.

Other benefits:
✅ Helps fight infection
✅ Reduces pain
✅ More oxygen speeds up repair and recovery
✅ Promotes stem cell mobilization
✅ Reduces inflammation

Phil Amato, a reporter for Action News Jax, shares his experience with sudden hearing loss (SSHL) and a recovery through Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy:

"I’ve spent decades telling other people’s stories on television. This time, the story became my own. On January 29, 2026, I was driving home listening to the radio when something suddenly changed. By the time I pulled into my driveway, I realized I had lost much of the hearing in my right ear. Sounds became muffled. Voices didn’t sound normal ... I went through hearing tests that showed severe hearing loss in my right ear along with almost no word clarity. For someone who works in television and communication, the diagnosis was terrifying."

"Hyperbaric oxygen therapy, or HBOT, is also increasingly being used alongside steroids. During the treatment, patients breathe pure oxygen inside a pressurized chamber. Specialists say the increased oxygen levels may help deliver more oxygen-rich blood to the damaged inner ear structures, potentially helping sensitive hearing cells recover. I documented every part of it — from lying inside the oxygen chamber to sitting in a doctor’s office receiving injections in my ear."

"This experience changed me personally and professionally. It also left me with one important message for others: if your hearing suddenly changes, don’t ignore it. Don’t assume it’s earwax. Don’t wait a week hoping it clears up. Be your own advocate. Because when silence strikes suddenly, every hour matters."
