Heads up Waggoner Pediatrics families! Our office will be closed Monday September 7th in observance of Labor Day. Normal hours resume Tuesday September 8th. We will still have urgent care hours Saturday morning from 9 AM - 12 PM. How much water does your child actually need each day?

Hydration is one of the simplest things we can do for our kids, and many children just aren't drinking enough, especially with back-to-school sports and busy activity schedules.

Here's a general guide for total daily fluids from water and other healthy beverages combined:

Ages 4 to 8: about 5 cups a day
Ages 9 to 13: about 7 to 8 cups a day
Ages 14 and up: about 8 to 11 cups a day

Keep in mind these are baseline goals. Kids need even more on hot, humid days and during exercise. For most activities, plain water is all they need. Sports and energy drinks usually aren't necessary, and caffeinated energy drinks aren't recommended for kids at all.

Children don't always stop to drink when they're thirsty, especially when they're busy playing or competing, so it helps to remind them and build the habit. Sending a water bottle to school every single day is one of the best routines you can create.

Flu season is on the horizon and we are here to help.

Waggoner Pediatrics is offering flu shots every Tuesday through October, starting September 15. No need to wait for your next appointment... just call us to schedule a time that works for your family.

A few things worth knowing:

We vaccinate parents too. If you are a parent of one of our patients, you are welcome to get your flu shot right alongside your child. Just let us know ahead of time when you call.

We recommend the flu vaccine for all children 6 months and older. It is one of the simplest and most effective things you can do to protect your family this fall.

Kids do not get sick on a schedule, and we know that. When your child wakes up not feeling well on a Saturday morning, you should not have to choose between waiting until Monday or heading to a walk-in clinic where nobody knows them.

Something we want more families to know: Waggoner Pediatrics provides medication management for children and teens with ADHD, anxiety, and depression.

You do not need a referral to a separate specialist. We already know your child, their history, and their needs. Managing their mental health is part of managing their whole health, and we are here for all of it.

With the new school year starting, now is a great time to review medication plans and make sure your child is set up for success.

New backpacks, new teachers, first day nerves. We love this time of year.

If your child has not had their annual physical yet, this is a great time to get it done. Many schools require an updated physical for sports, activities, or enrollment, and spots fill up fast this time of year!

You calm nervous little ones, answer worried parent calls, and show up every single day with skill, patience, and so much genuine care. We are endlessly grateful for each and every one of you.
