Have you tried losing weight but your legs (or arms) just won’t budge?

Maybe you’ve heard “eat less and move more.” So, you did just that – you reduced the calories. You did different styles of diets. You’ve tried all the forms of physical exercise. Yet, nothing worked.

It may not be your fault. It could be lipedema.

Lipedema is a chronic medical condition where adipose tissue is accumulated. The underlying cause of lipedema is not well understood but there appears to be a hormonal and genetic component to it. Women who are experiencing hormonal changes (puberty, pregnancy, menopause) may notice the beginnings or worsening of the condition.

Typical signs of lipedema:
·buildup of fat in both legs (sometimes both arms as well)
·swelling
·tenderness or pain (can be just upon palpation, intermittent or constant)
·heaviness (may get worse as the day goes on)
·fatigue (may get worse as the day goes on)
·bruises easily
·nodular texture under the skin (can range in size from rice to walnuts)
·the adipose tissue spares the hands and feet, leaving what appears to be a “cuff” at either the ankle or wrist

This condition can fly under the radar unfortunately because it can be mistaken for obesity.

Conservative treatment methods for lipedema include manual lymphatic drainage, compression garments and compression pumps – all of which are provided at Empower Health.

Rather than wonder, get clarification. Visit our website at www.empowerhealth-ks.com or call785-269-1788 to request an appointment.

June is Lipedema Awareness Month 💜

Lipedema is a chronic, progressive adipose tissue disorder that impacts roughly 11% of women globally. Despite how common it is, lipedema is frequently misdiagnosed as standard weight gain or lifestyle-related obesity.

Unlike typical fat, lipedema tissue completely resists diet and exercise. It often causes a build up of adipose tissue in the legs or arms (it spares the hands and feet), swelling, significant pain, tenderness, and easy bruising.

Knowledge is power and early diagnosis is key! Proper treatment, including compression therapy and manual lymphatic drainage, can significantly improve quality of life. Empower Health can provide both, along with the education to equip lipedema warriors for the road ahead 💜

Let’s spread the word together. Share this post to help someone else find answers and hope. Drop a 💜 in the comments to show your support for the Lipedema community or share something you wish more people understood about this condition.

Kegel weights can be a real game change for some ladies! Why? Let me tell you:

1) Pelvic floor muscle strengthening 🏋️‍♀️ : these are great to use while laying down when beginners are introduced to strengthening. For those who are more advanced, these can be used during physical exercise!

2) Continuous challenge 💪 : muscles that need strengthened need continuous challenge. These are an easy way to challenge the pelvic floor muscles because these are progressive in weight.

3) Feedback 💬: some individuals have a hard time gauging what their pelvic floor is doing with simple activities such as going from sitting to standing. These provide an easy way for a client to feel for herself! It’s crucial that those with pelvic floor dysfunction know what their pelvic floor is doing to improve their symptoms.

4) Leakage 💦 : with improved pelvic floor strength and coordination, urinary incontinence can improve. This is great for postpartum women who have recently began experiencing urinary leakage (incontinence) or for the menopausal woman who’s been experiencing it for several years.

5) Prolapse 🎈: the pelvic floor muscles are better able to support the pelvic organs when they are stronger. It’s better to address a prolapse NOW while it can be managed with conservative treatments such as therapy rather than surgery. A prolapse can occur in one or more of the pelvic organs.

If you are experiencing pelvic health dysfunction, I want to help you! These are just one of the many treatment options we can use to help improve your pelvic health.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mamas out there 💕

To those mamas who have brought their babies to earth side 🤱

To those mamas whose babies went to be with Jesus before ever seeing them👼

To those mamas who held their babies but ended up outliving their children 💔

To those mamas who have raised a child that didn’t come from their own womb 🫶🏼

To all those mamas in heaven whom we miss here on earth 🌍

God bless every single one of you!

I hear this SO often. If this is you: first of all, I’m sorry you’re experiencing this. You are NOT alone!

There are several reasons why it can be uncomfortable, painful or “feels off”:
-muscle tension: the pelvic floor muscles need to be able to both contract and relax. If they are only tight this can make s*x uncomfortable as well as more difficult to achieve the big “O.”
-pelvic organ prolapse: if a prolapse is present, the organ can get in the way of pe*******on and may be uncomfortable. This may be more noticeable in some positions more than others.
-scar adhesions: if you’ve had a vaginal delivery and experienced tearing (laceration) this tissue can become tight. The scar tissue doesn’t stretch as well and therefore can interfere with comfortable pe*******on.
-vaginal dryness: this can boil down to needing lubrication or possibly prescription vaginal estrogen (speak to your primary care provider to see if vaginal estrogen is a good fit for you).
-endometriosis: one of the cardinal signs of endometriosis can be painful s*x (along with painful periods). Sometimes this can be the endometriosis itself, muscle tension or an upregulated nervous system.
-upregulated nervous system: being in “fight or flight” mode can make it difficult for muscles to relax. It can also create a barrier for us ladies who need to zone in before achieving the big “O.”

If any of these resonate with you, there is a SOLUTION FOR ALL! I’ve worked with plenty of women who have been able to enjoy s*x again and I would love to help you get there, too. Ready to schedule? Message me or visit www.empowerhealth-ks.com to request an appointment.
