It's Team Member Tuesday! Today we've got Connor, our June Rock Star. Connor is loved by patients and employees alike. He's always willing to step in and help where he can. Connor is one of our pharmacy interns, and we're happy the pharmacy world will be gaining an exceptional pharmacist in a few years. Connor is an asset to our pharmacy and we love having him; not to mention he's fluent in Spanish which is a great resource for many of our patients. Thanks, Connor, for all you do!

Prior Authorizations can be confusing, here's a breakdown of the process to make it a bit more clear. If you have questions about the status of a PA, you can ask the pharmacy but often times we actually don't know. Prior Authorizations are done between the medical provider and the insurance company, the pharmacy just initiates the request. The whole process typically takes a few days to a week and we often don't know a PA has been approved until we try and re-submit the claim.

There are currently nationwide shortages for Amphetamine Extended-Release (Adderall XR) and Estradiol Transdermal Patches. What does this mean? In short, it means that the manufacturers can't keep up with the demand for the drug. This causes many people to have to go without or seek alternative therapies.
What can you do?
-You can call your doctor and discuss alternative therapies that might be appropriate and call insurance to see what alternatives they will cover.
-Call the pharmacy a few days sooner than you normally would when you're running low. This way we can let you know if we have any in stock, if we have an idea of when/if we will get any, or advise you to contact your provider for an alternative therapy.

Drug shortages are difficult to navigate, even for us. If you have any questions feel free to give us a call and we will do our best to answer your questions.

It's Team Member Tuesday. Meet Eli, our May rock star! Eli is a technician at our Chapel Hill location. Staff members and customers all love him and his infectious smile. He comes to work with an outstanding attitude and a readiness to help out wherever he can. We appreciate everything he does for Kilgore's and our patients.

Have a vacation scheduled? Be sure to plan ahead for your medication, especially if you're going to run out right before or during your trip. Call about a week before you leave for your vacation to make sure we have refills and can fill your meds before you go. Sometimes we have to call the doctor or insurance for vacation fills, and sometimes those things take a few days.
