Synopsis: A study of 227 Long COVID patients found significantly elevated blood levels of pTau181, a protein linked to Alzheimer’s disease, compared to 227 persons without Long COVID. Increases averaged 59% compared to pre-infection levels, especially in those with symptoms lasting over 1.5 years. Researchers warn this may signal long-term neurocognitive risks, but need further validation.

Synopsis: A Stony Brook–led study of more than 12,000 World Trade Center responders found that more than 10 years after 9/11, responders who had more exposures than those minimally exposed at Ground Zero had a nearly threefold risk of lung cancer. Risk was greatest among responders with heavy exposure and inconsistent protective equipment use, after adjusting for smoking factors.
