This message hit hard because honestly… none of us are exempt from it.

Some people struggle with overeating.
Some people obsess over eating perfectly clean.
Some chase fitness, appearance, success, productivity, control, or comfort.

But underneath all of it is often the same thing… a hunger only Jesus can truly satisfy.

We spend so much time trying to fill ourselves with things of this world — food, achievements, distractions, validation, even “healthy” things — while our soul is quietly starving for time with God.

And that’s the part that stood out to me most.
Not being the fittest.
Not being the healthiest.
Not having it all together.

But continually working on my relationship with Jesus.

Because at the end of the day, He is the only one who truly satisfies the deep hunger of the soul.

🧠💚 You are invited to an important evening of conversation, healing, and hope.

In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, our Health Ministry is partnering with Anjie Vickers of NAMI Cabarrus (National Alliance on Mental Illness) for a powerful presentation focused on mental health in African American men.

Too often, struggles are hidden behind phrases like “I’m good” or “I’ll be alright.” This evening is designed to create a safe and supportive space for honest dialogue, education, encouragement, and connection. Because mental wellness matters. And nobody should have to carry life’s weight alone.

📅 Wednesday, May 20
🕕 7:00 PM
📍 First Missionary Baptist Church

This FREE community event is part of our ongoing “Evenings with Friends” series, where we explore the connection between mental, spiritual, and physical wellness together.

Bring a friend. Bring your questions. Bring an open heart. 💚

Heavenly Father,

Today we thank You for the mothers and mother figures of Grace Lutheran Church and our community.

Thank You for the women who love sacrificially, pray faithfully, encourage generously, and care so deeply for their families, friends, churches, schools, and neighbors. Thank You for mothers, grandmothers, stepmothers, foster mothers, spiritual mothers, mentors, teachers, caregivers, and all the women who help shape lives with compassion and grace.

Lord, strengthen them when they are weary, comfort them when life feels heavy, and remind them how valuable and deeply loved they are. Fill their hearts with peace, joy, wisdom, and renewed hope.

We pray blessings over their homes, their health, their relationships, and their future. May they continue to walk in Your strength and reflect Your love to those around them.

We also pray for those who find Mother’s Day difficult — those grieving loss, longing for children, missing loved ones, or carrying hidden pain. Surround them with Your comfort and peace today.

Help us to honor and appreciate the women who faithfully pour into others every single day.

“Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come.”
— Proverbs 31:25

“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.”
— Ephesians 4:2

“Let all that you do be done in love.”
— 1 Corinthians 16:14

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Sometimes the journey slows us down in ways we never expected.

There are setbacks. Detours. Hard seasons. Moments where we wonder why things aren’t moving faster or easier.

But maybe part of the gift is learning to notice the beauty along the way. 💛

Today I was outside listening to the sounds of nature, moving my body, breathing deeply, and being reminded that God never intended for us to rush through life so fast that we miss what He created around us.

Jesus often stepped away to quiet places. He walked. He rested. He noticed people. He noticed nature. He paused.

And maybe we need that reminder too.

Get outside when you can. Move your body. Feel the sunshine. Listen to the birds. Watch the trees move in the wind. Let your nervous system settle for a minute and remember that healing, growth, and peace are often found in the simple things.
No matter what season you’re in right now… don’t miss the beauty along the journey. 🌿
