Let me reintroduce myself - I’m Traci. Owner of Fresh Roots Nutrition for 14 years. I love what I do. I love helping people feel good. And I’m a breast cancer survivor. This adds a layer to me as a provider, having been on the patient side. Thank you for being here. And a huge thank you to M A R G A R E T C L A R A ~ New Hampshire Photographer ~ for these photos that captured me. She’s also one of my amazing oncology nurses and I adore her.

Dinner time! It’s roasting season again. Unless you are in SIBO treatment, cauliflower is a great choice in the weekly rotation. A little olive oil and salt is all you need. Want it ready even quicker, you can do frozen. I just find people eat a lot more roasted as it’s yummier!

Nutrition and Cancer. Nutrition during active cancer treatment and post cancer treatment will look very different.

* During treatment - with the goal to maintain weight, adequate protein, and if on chemotherapy - supporting digestion to manage GI symptoms. Chewable digestive enzymes and very particular probiotics can be game changers to prevent your GI symptoms from managing your life during treatment.

* Post treatment - repairing the digestive system and adequate protein for healing and repairing are key. But this is when you can feel bombarded with questions - vegan or high protein? Is soy or dairy good or bad? It can feel overwhelming.

If you, or someone you know is in this world and wants help to talk it out, look at their particular situation and diet, and make a plan, know that I am here to help. Each appointment with me is given an hour of time. You have a place where you can feel comfortable. Advice is research and experience driven, not fear based. Healing takes time. And the right nutrition can help with healing.

Just harvesting some basil between office work 🍂. Herbs have incredible health benefits. How often do you season with fresh herbs? Flavor and antioxidants - food first.

GLP-1s are here to stay. I strongly feel everyone on one should be seeing me, or someone like me quarterly. Nutrient levels need to be assessed differently. Constipation needs to be prevented. And we need to make sure blood sugar levels and calories aren't lower than they should be. If the goal is to be on them long term, let's make sure you can be.

The dynamic duo. Vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin, so I love taking it with a meal, and my omega-3 supplement. In the northeast most people need to take from now until next summer. Omega 3s can help with inflammation- joint pain from menopause anyone? But not all omega3s are created equal. Yours should be 3rd party tested. And have 1000mg of EPA and DHA. This one does in 1 pill….not 3.

I haven’t updated personally on here in a bit. I’ve focused my energy on the office and my health. If you are new here, I was unexpectedly diagnosed with estrogen, progesterone and Her-2 + breast cancer early October after a routine mammogram. Today I finished radiation. I’ve completed chemotherapy, which I worked telehealth all through, two surgeries including a mastectomy, HP shots every 3 weeks until next October, and 25 sessions of radiation. This hair wasn’t intentional, but it is growing back 💕. I’ve been back in the office since April, still focusing on your health. This diagnosis adds another layer to me as a provider. Bridging more functional medicine with traditional when needed. Still with a strong focus on gut health. And food as medicine, but also to be enjoyed. Thank you to those who have been so supportive to me on this journey. And now we transition to preventing reoccurrence mode vs fight cancer mode. I don’t believe all things happen for a reason. I never will think this happened to teach me a lesson. I never feel a child should have cancer for any reason. But we can arise to the situation we are dealt. And fight strongly and bravely and with positivity. And we can move our bodies as best we can to help mentally. That I truly believe makes all the difference 💕
