Section 504 Under Attack - Again

If States succeed, that could strip disabled people the right to publicly funded services that allow them to live in their own homes and neighborhoods, and instead push them into institutions such as state hospitals and nursing homes.

This suit would have disastrous effects on hundreds of thousands of Louisianans by eliminating one of the few tools they have to fight for their rights.

Most Americans with disabilities are aware of SSI’s asset limit of $2,000. This asset limit was based on inflation in 1972 and hasn’t been adjusted for modern inflation. Today’s inflation numbers would see limits around $5,000 if adjusted. To end the disparity, disability advocates have begun addressing it through legislation like the SSI Savings Penalty Elimination Act.
