Save this for your child’s next dental, pediatric, or orthodontic appointment. 📌 Two simple questions can open up a much bigger conversation.
Appointments move quickly, and airway and oral function aren’t always part of a routine visit. Asking specifically can help you understand the bigger picture.
🦷 Question #1:
“Is their palate narrow for their age, and is their tongue resting up or down?”
Palate shape and tongue resting posture are two pieces worth looking at together—especially if you’ve also noticed mouth breathing, snoring, crowded teeth, or lips resting open. 👃👅
😁 Question #2 — especially before orthodontic treatment:
“Before we consider expansion or braces, should breathing and tongue posture be addressed first?”
Orthodontics can change the position of the teeth and jaws, while myofunctional therapy focuses on patterns like tongue posture, lip seal, nasal breathing, and swallowing. When both are relevant, coordination and timing matter. 🧩
And remember: “No concerns here” is a useful answer, too. 💛 Your dentist or orthodontist may already be watching these things—and many welcome parents asking thoughtful questions.
You’re not being difficult. You’re advocating for a clearer picture of your child’s function. 🌿
