Crosby Explorers Homeschool Group is spending the next few weeks rotating groups to Dragon's Nest Forge to learn about blacksmithing. The coolest fact we learned was that the blacksmiths were also the town's dentists since they had the right tools. Crosby Explorers is separate from Magellan, but kind of a sister organization. It meets so that the students have time to go on field trips, hang out, do charities together. It is open and free to any home-schooler, regardless of how you homeschool! We meet Wednesdays every week.

What an incredible first week at Magellan Learning Center! 🎉

Without a doubt, this has been the best first week we've ever had. Every school year is special, but this one already feels like a milestone.

Some of our students who are beginning high school have been with Magellan since the very beginning. Watching them grow from young children into confident teenagers has been one of the greatest blessings of this journey.

People often ask where the name *Magellan* came from. It actually started as a joke! I used to say I "circumnavigated" Crosby and the surrounding areas tutoring students all over the place—just like Ferdinand Magellan. The name stuck, and here we are years later.

I'm also thrilled with the new communication and notification system we've introduced this year. It has made connecting with families smoother than ever and has helped everything run more efficiently.

Most of all, I'm grateful for the amazing students and families who make Magellan what it is. Our classrooms are filled with positive attitudes, kindness, and a genuine desire to learn.

One of my favorite moments this week has been seeing students who struggled last year proudly showing off the reading and math skills they worked so hard to build over the summer. There is nothing more rewarding than watching confidence replace frustration and seeing that hard work pay off.

Thank you to all of our Magellan families for trusting us to be part of your children's educational journey. I truly believe this is going to be our best year yet! 💙📚

🎉 **Please help us welcome Ava Ubnoskye to the Magellan Learning Center team as our newest Student Teacher!** 🎉

Many of you have watched Ava grow up at Magellan. She first joined us as a 2nd grader, and now, she is a high school student in our homeschool program!

Ava has always stood out for her love of reading and writing, and she has shared with us her interest in education. This year, she'll be taking her first steps toward that dream by helping in our afternoon classes as a Student Teacher under staff supervision. She'll be assisting students, supporting classroom activities, and gaining valuable experience along the way.

We're so proud of Ava and can't wait to see all she accomplishes. Congratulations, Ava—we're excited to have you on the Magellan team! 💙📚

We are so proud to celebrate one of our amazing students who earned her GED this week! I've never been more excited to cancel a session in my life!

She dedicated her summer to working hard, staying focused, and reaching her goal. Her determination, perseverance, and commitment to her education have paid off, and we couldn't be happier for her.

Every year the local wildlife association works with me to help me teach about indigenous animals in our area. They have been learning about bones biomes, predators, prey and animal classifications. They will create food webs with them later. They also learned about tracks and s**t before our end of the year hike at a local nature park. I'm going to take them through the woods and find cool stuff for their own collections! Mushrooms, moss and petrified wood :) I'm so excited! I love this part of the year!

Thank you for all your support, your love for me, and for my organizations. It has been a pleasure to serve you, and I look forward to continuing for many years to come. Crosby Explorers has been in service to the community with a zero bottom line for ten years. We have seen many faces come and go. Their reach is just immeasurable. I can't even begin to tell you the sheer number of families I have seen affected in a positive way by Crosby Explorers. The best part is that when I'm at the end of my life, I'm going to have all these memories and it is like a wonderful gift that God has procured just for me. I get to hear very personal things about each family and just what they are up against and I get to see the change. It is like a little special faith building secret that God shows only to me. It keeps my heart light. I can't tell their stories bc they aren't mine to tell, but when I tell you that God can work through homeschooling... please believe that miracles still happen! It has been a pleasure to watch you and your families and to make all the special connections I have made along the way. Thank you!

The months get away from me. I forget to share with the world the amazing things that happen at Crosby Explorers Homeschool Group. The answer is yes, we have students that are your child's age. Crosby Explorers meets Wednesdays from 11-1pm so that moms who homeschool and work (there are many of us) can take a long lunch one day a week and come take some time to interact. Making friendships is easy with us! Crosby Explorers is free to home-schoolers. Pay only for field trips. (And psst... we get a discount!)
