Rest Isn’t the Same as Recovery

As an athlete, there’s a big difference between taking time off and helping your body recover.

Rest means reducing or stopping activity.

Recovery means giving your body what it needs to adapt and come back stronger.

Too much rest can actually work against you.

Without movement:

• Joints become stiffer
• Muscles lose coordination
• Circulation slows
• The nervous system becomes less adaptable

That’s why, in many situations, the goal isn’t complete inactivity—it’s intentional movement.

Active Recovery Looks Like:

👉 Walking
👉 Mobility work
👉 Functional movement drills
👉 Light strength work
👉 Zone 2 cardio
👉 Recovery modalities that support circulation and the nervous system

The intensity changes…

But the body keeps moving.

Human Function and Performance

Movement is one of the best recovery tools you have.

When done appropriately, it helps maintain:

✅ Joint mobility
✅ Muscle flexibility
✅ Circulation
✅ Nervous system regulation
✅ Confidence in movement

The goal isn’t to avoid movement.

It’s to choose the right movement for where your body is today.

Because recovery isn’t about doing nothing…

It’s about doing what helps your body adapt.

Keep moving. Recover with intention. Come back stronger.

Set Your Position. Set Your Intention. Create the Movement You Desire.

Most people focus on the movement.

Few focus on the position that creates it.

But position is everything.

Before the body can move efficiently:

👉 The joints must line up
👉 The muscles must have the right tension
👉 The body must feel stable
👉 The nervous system must feel safe

That’s where posture and positioning come in.

If your starting position is off:

• Mobility gets restricted
• Muscles compensate
• Strength leaks away
• Movement becomes inefficient

And eventually symptoms appear.

The Power of Intention

At Human Function and Performance, we don’t just perform exercises.

We create a specific position with a specific purpose.

Sometimes we:
✅ Shift the pelvis
✅ Reposition the rib cage
✅ Ground the foot
✅ Stabilize one area to unlock another

Because the body responds to the position you place it in.

The Goal

Don’t just move.

Move with intention.

When posture, position, and movement work together:

• Mobility improves
• Stability improves
• Strength improves
• Performance improves

Your movement is only as good as the position it starts from.

Set the posture.
Set the position.
Set the intention.

Then let the movement happen.

Movement Isn’t Random. It’s a System.

One of the biggest mistakes people make is doing the same movement the same way every time.

The body thrives on variety.

Not random variety…

Intentional variety.

At UNLOCKED Move, we change the movement by changing the strategy.

Sometimes that means:

👉 Locking certain joints up
👉 Stabilizing one body segment
👉 Limiting one motion to expose another

Why?

Because if everything moves, the body will usually take the easiest path.

And the easiest path isn’t always the most efficient path.

The Power of Constraints

When you lock one area in:

✅ Different muscles activate
✅ Different joints become responsible
✅ New movement options emerge
✅ Compensation patterns are exposed

Suddenly the body has to adapt.

This Isn’t Guesswork

We’re not throwing random exercises at the problem.

We’re creating specific inputs to get specific outputs.

Change the position.
Change the joint.
Change the force.
Change the movement.

The Result

Better mobility.
Better stability.
Better strength.
Better coordination.

Most importantly…

A body that can adapt to whatever life throws at it.

Functional movement isn’t about doing more exercises.

It’s about using a system that teaches the body how to move better.

Lock one area.
Release another.
Create a new opportunity for movement.

That’s UNLOCKED Move.

Lock Yourself In to Unlock the Rest of the Body

One of the biggest misconceptions in movement is that more movement is always the answer.

Sometimes the answer is the opposite.

Sometimes you have to lock one area in so the area that’s supposed to move finally can.

If everything moves...

Nothing truly changes.

The body will simply take the path of least resistance and continue using the same compensation pattern.

# # # The UNLOCKED Move Philosophy

Lock the area that’s cheating.

Unlock the area that’s restricted.

For example:

👉 Stabilize the pelvis to improve hip mobility
👉 Control the rib cage to improve shoulder movement
👉 Ground the foot to improve rotational control

# # Why This Works

The body craves stability.

When one area becomes stable:

✅ The nervous system feels safe
✅ The right muscles activate
✅ The joints line up better
✅ The restricted areas can finally move

-—
The Goal

Not more movement.

Better movement.

Movement that comes from the right place at the right time.

---
—en you intentionally create stability:

• Mobility improves
• Strength improves
• Coordination improves
• Performance improves

Sometimes the fastest way to unlock movement is to stop moving everything.

Lock yourself in.
Create structure.
Unlock the rest of the body.

Get the Whole Body Working as a Team

Your body was never designed to function as separate parts.

It’s one system.

One team.

And when the team works together, movement feels effortless.

But when alignment is off...

Only certain players start doing all the work.

One hip works harder.
One shoulder compensates.
The low back takes on extra stress.
The neck tightens.

And eventually symptoms appear:

👉 Pain
👉 Tightness
👉 Inflammation
👉 Weakness
👉 Fatigue

The problem isn’t always the area that hurts.

The problem is often that the body has lost its ability to coordinate movement efficiently.

# # # The Goal

Restore alignment.

Improve positioning.

Create better communication between body segments.

When the pelvis, rib cage, hips, shoulders, and feet start working together again:

✅ Force transfers more efficiently
✅ Joints line up better
✅ Muscles share the workload
✅ Movement becomes easier

# # Human Function and Performance

We don'’ just chase symptoms.

We focus on restoring the pattern behind them.

Because when you reset the pattern...

You give the body an opportunity to reorganize itself.

Reset the pattern.
Unlock the movement.
Get the whole body working as a team again.

Change the Surface. Change the Adaptation.

Most people think progress only comes from changing the exercise.

But sometimes the biggest change comes from altering the surface beneath you.

When you change the surface, you change the information your body receives.

A stable surface challenges one set of abilities.

An unstable or variable surface challenges another.

Suddenly your body has to:

👉 Adapt
👉 Balance
👉 Stabilize
👉 Coordinate movement differently

# # # Why This Matters

Your body is constantly responding to its environment.

Change the environment and you change:

✅ Muscle activation
✅ Joint positioning
✅ Balance strategies
✅ Nervous system input
✅ Movement options

# # The Goal Isn'’ to Make Things Harder

The goal is to make the body more adaptable.

Because life doesn'’ happen on perfect gym floors.

Life happens on:
• Grass
• Trails
• Uneven terrain
• Stairs
• Slopes
• Unexpected situations

-—
Human Function and Performance

The more adaptable your body becomes, the more resilient it becomes.

And resilience is what allows you to:

👉 Move with confidence
👉 Perform at a higher level
👉 Recover faster
👉 Handle the unexpected

Your body adapts to the environment you give it.

Change the surface.
Change the input.
Change the adaptation.

What Can Happen in Just 9 Sessions?

A lot more than symptom relief.

At Human Function and Performance, the goal isn’t a quick-fix adjustment, temporary release, or short-term feel-good treatment.

The goal is to help you get control of your body again.

Over the course of 8-12 sessions depending on one’s condition, a combination of:

👉 Manual Therapy
👉 Functional Movement Training
👉 Personal Training & Strength Development

can create significant change.

Not because we’re “fixing” you...

But because we’re teaching your body how to function better.

# # # The Process

First, we create awareness.

Then we improve:
✅ Joint alignment
✅ Mobility
✅ Muscle flexibility
✅ Stability
✅ Strength

And most importantly...

We teach your body how to use those changes in real-life movement.

# # The Difference

Anyone can temporarily change how you feel.

The real question is:

Can you maintain it when you walk out the door?

Can you squat better?
Can you move better?
Can you perform better?
Can you trust your body again?

-—
Human Function and Performance

The best results happen when:

• The joints line up
• The muscles work together
• The body moves efficiently
• Strength supports the movement

That's w’en your body stops fighting against you and starts working for you.

---
—'s n’t about chasing symptoms.

It's a’out building a body that can move, adapt, and perform long after the treatment session ends.

That’s the difference between temporary relief and lasting results.

Want to Move Better? Don’t Forget How to Run Better.

Most people train movement and performance almost exclusively in the sagittal plane.

Forward.
Backward.
Straight ahead.

Squats.
Lunges.
Running.

And while those are important, they’re only part of the story.

Your body was designed to move in all three planes:

👉 Sagittal (forward/backward)
👉 Frontal (side-to-side)
👉 Transverse (rotation)

When you ignore frontal and transverse movement, you limit what’s possible.

# # # Why This Matters for Running

Running isn’t just a sagittal activity.

Every stride requires:

• Pelvic rotation
• Rib cage rotation
• Weight shifting
• Single-leg stability
• Force transfer through multiple planes

If those movement options aren’t available, the body compensates.

# # The Result?

• Less efficiency
• More energy expenditure
• Reduced speed and power
• Increased risk of pain and injury

-—
The UNLOCKED Move Perspective

Your body only knows what you teach it.

If you only train one direction...

Your body only becomes efficient in one direction.

But when you challenge all planes of motion:

✅ Movement improves
✅ Running mechanics improve
✅ Force transfer improves
✅ Performance expands

Change the input. Change the output.

The more movement options you give your body, the more performance options it can give back.

Reaching, Bending, and Moving With Ease... What Has to Happen?

Most people think movement should just happen naturally.

But if reaching overhead, bending down, or moving through your day feels restricted, there’s usually a reason why.

# # # It Starts With Three Things:

👉 Mobility of the Joint

The joint must have the ability to move through the range of motion required.

If the joint is compressed or poorly aligned, movement becomes limited.

👉 Flexibility of the Muscle

The surrounding muscles must be able to lengthen and adapt.

If the muscles are guarding, overworking, or restricted, they create resistance to movement.

👉 Stability of the Body

This is the piece most people miss.

The body needs stability for:
• Posture
• Positioning
• Force transfer

Without stability, the body doesn’t feel safe enough to allow mobility and flexibility.

# # The Reality

You can stretch all day long...

But if the joint can'’ move or the body can'’ stabilize, the restriction often comes right back.

-—
The Goal

Create the right balance of:

✅ Joint mobility
✅ Muscle flexibility
✅ Body stability

When those three work together:

• Reaching becomes easier
• Bending feels smoother
• Movement becomes more efficient
• Life becomes more enjoyable

---
—bility, flexibility, and stability aren't c’mpeting with each other.

They’re all part of the same movement equation.
