Rare Autoimmune Series: Meet Regina!

Every journey with myasthenia gravis (MG) is unique. Every experience matters. And every voice deserves to be heard.

From sharing her story at our Women’s Empowerment Retreat to opening up about her personal journey with MG, Regina reminds us of the power of courage, resilience, and self-advocacy.

Navigating the healthcare system while living with a rare autoimmune disease can be challenging. By sharing her experiences, Regina is helping raise awareness, inspire others, and remind our community that no one should have to navigate this journey alone.

We thank Regina for her courage, authenticity, and willingness to turn her personal experiences into an opportunity to empower others.

Your story matters. Your voice matters. YOU matter!

Independent Organizations. Shared Purpose. Stronger Together.

As members of The MG Alliance, we share a commitment to supporting people living with myasthenia gravis, their families, and caregivers.

Each organization brings its own strengths, programs, and community connections. Through our collaboration, we are committed to amplifying one another’s efforts, sharing resources, promoting educational opportunities, and supporting each other’s programs and events.

Our message is simple: When we support one another, we strengthen the community we serve.

Together, we invite patients, families, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and community partners to learn, connect, participate, and help spread the word. Every shared resource, supported event, and new connection helps advance our shared purpose.

Many voices. Shared commitment. Together for the MG community.

💙 The future of medicine needs people who listen.

Student doctor Stephanie from the Morehouse School of Medicine took our Anti Gaslighting Pledge™ and vowed to keep myasthenia gravis in the forefront!

At the MG Holistic Society, we believe every patient deserves to be heard, taken seriously, and treated with respect. We’re grateful to Stephanie for making this commitment as she prepares for her future in medicine.

🫘 Same beans. Same serving size. Different sodium levels!

I turned over two cans of beans to compare their labels. One had 400 mg of sodium per serving, while the other had 240 mg.

That’s 160 mg less sodium per serving—a 40% reduction!
The math: (400 − 240) ÷ 400 × 100 = 40%.

👀 Turn it over before you put it in your cart. Read the Nutrition Facts AND the ingredient list to see what is actually in your food. Compare equal serving sizes and look for options with less sodium, including no-salt-added varieties.

Why does sodium matter? Too much sodium can draw more water into your bloodstream, increasing blood volume and raising blood pressure. Over time, high blood pressure increases your risk of heart disease, stroke, and kidney disease. (fda.gov)

Remember: the sodium listed is per serving. If you eat two servings, you get twice the sodium.

🛒 Your next grocery-store challenge: Compare two versions of something you buy regularly. Which has less sodium? Share what you discover!

Read your food labels!! Don’t put your health at risk.

🎀 Women AND men—check your breasts. Your health deserves your attention!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and this reminder is for everyone: men get breast cancer, too. According to the American Cancer Society, fewer than 1% of breast cancers in the United States occur in men. Rare doesn’t mean impossible. (cancer.org)

Get familiar with how your breasts normally look and feel. Watch for:

🔎 A new lump or thickening in the breast or underarm
🔎 Skin dimpling, swelling or other changes
🔎 A ni**le turning inward or unusual ni**le discharge

Report new changes to your healthcare provider promptly—even if they don’t hurt. (cancer.org)

Talk with your provider about your personal risk and the screening schedule that’s right for you. Self-checks do not replace recommended mammograms.

💗 Make time for your breast health—and share this reminder with someone you love.
