Trauma doesn’t always end when the event is over.

For some people, the effects can linger for months or even years, impacting sleep, relationships, physical health and overall well-being. PTSD is often associated with military service, but trauma can affect anyone, including survivors of violence, accidents, medical emergencies, natural disasters, healthcare workers, caregivers and first responders.

In recognition of the Denver Health Trauma Survivors Fun Run, we’ve taken a closer look at how trauma affects the brain and body, common signs and symptoms of PTSD, treatment options and ways to support someone who may be struggling.

Healing is possible and no one should have to carry trauma alone.
