The calendar may still say summer, but the signs are beginning to appear.
A little less daylight. Cooler mornings. Rain. The first changing leaves.
In Chinese medicine, we pay attention to these transitions because our bodies don’t exist separately from the world around us.
Sleep may change. Energy can shift. Allergies may appear. Digestion can feel different. Stress can increase as routines get busier.
You don’t have to wait until something feels really wrong to take care of yourself.
Sometimes an acupuncture treatment is simply a chance to stop, rest and help your body find its footing again.

Nourish Your Earth Element

Did you know that Traditional Chinese Medicine recognizes Late Summer as its own season?

It’s associated with the Earth element and the Spleen and Stomach—making this a time to focus on nourishment, digestion and grounding.

And this is pretty much Late Summer in a pan.
Sweet potatoes
Root vegetables
Squash
Whole grains
Beans & legumes
Apples & pears

There is emphasis on warm, gently cooked and naturally sweet foods during this season.

It doesn’t have to be complicated.

A warm breakfast. Roasted vegetables. A bowl of rice. A pot of soup.

As the seasons begin to change, sometimes our bodies appreciate a little simplicity.

A Season of Transition…

Late August is a threshold.

Kids head back to school. Teachers return to classrooms. Family routines change.

The days get a little shorter, and after a brutally hot and dry summer, the return of the rain reminds us that the season is beginning to shift.

Our bodies notice transitions, too.

Changes in routine can affect sleep, digestion, energy and stress. You might notice headaches, muscle tension, anxiety, fatigue—or simply feel a little “off.”

Even positive change asks something of the body.

Acupuncture can give your body a place to slow down, settle and catch up as life moves into a new season.

It’s been a while in my clinic snack series. As you see it’s time for my most favorite snack! I’m trying very hard not to have sticky fingers and the peach is so soft an impromptu cheese knife does the trick.
Acupuncture can create the similar bliss one feels when they bite into a juicy Palisade peach.
