Session: First Results from the KoNoS Study: Competence Expectations for German Paramedics

What competencies are German paramedics expected to hold, and how far do those expectations extend beyond current qualification levels?

In his second IRCP 2026 presentation, Professor Thomas Hofmann will share first results from the KoNoS Study. With 629 participants, the study found a median expected competence level of DQR 6, above the current DQR 4 qualification level.

The implications reach directly into education, professional development, workforce strategy, role design, and policy.

Session: A Community Paramedicine Transitional Care Program to Support Early Emergency Department Discharge

The hours and days after an early emergency department discharge can determine whether recovery continues at home or the patient returns to crisis.

At IRCP 2026, Judah Goldstein, P*P, PhD, and Sean Collins, ACP, BScP, will present a community paramedicine transitional care programme launched in Halifax in 2023.

The program supported 108 patients, many older and moderately frail, through reassessment, coaching, laboratory services, and coordinated follow-up. Fourteen percent returned to the emergency department within one week, offering important lessons for program design and scale.
