We will be at two places today, we have a booth at Christy Mathewson Days here in Factoryville, and the barn will be open regular times 11-4.

Yesterday we saw Christy Mathewson Park host 6th grade graduation, and today it is home to Christy Mathewson Days.

So whether you are local, or coming a distance, swing by the barn, then down to the park, and enjoy some good music, good baseball, great food, and movie night if the weather holds.

We also kick off our next project here in Factoryville, slowing folks down in town. Kids will be making signs to put up around town to remind those in a hurry to take a chill pill :)

Want to start your weekend off great?

First Friday right here in Factoryville, Home of the Big Six Promise, with a little Bluegrass and Gosple Jam.

Jay Travis assembles some 20-30+ fiddlers, guitar and banjo players from around the local area every First Friday right here in Factoryville.

Take if from me, if you haven’t checked it out yet, please do, you won’t be disappointed. A great way to start the weekend.

Then Saturday we roll right into Christy Mathewson Days.

If you miss Jay and the crew today, you can catch them down at Christy Mathewson Park 1-4 under the pavilion and throughout the day playing some good old Americana music.

Sing along to “Take me out to the ballgame”, watching little league games throughout the day, along with great food, fun runs, kids activities, vendors, and Movie Night, weather permitting.

Switching gears yesterday found me at the 3rd Grade Tunkhannock Science Fair.

Six different groups of around 20-25 kids throughout the day, got to pepperer me with questions about rocks, gems, and fossils. :)

They got to hold a meteorite, dinosaur egg, check out rocks that float, rocks that light up, pass around some coprolite (dinosaur dung), feel some volcanic ash from Mount Saint Helens, along with numerous different types of fossils and gems.

Each group also had an opportunity to break open some rock I brought back from one of my trips to the Green River area in Wyoming known for fish fossils.

Want to give a shout out, and thank you to the teachers, first for inviting me, and secondly for the important work you do with our kids and grandkids.

After only four hours, this old guy was exhausted, mentally and physically, LOL. So great job teachers, it’s not easy what you all do on a daily basis. Thinking of suggesting at our Mayor’s conference this evening that it be mandatory for all elected officials to spend at least one full day in school experiencing the daily life of a teacher. What say you!

Looks like a rainy weekend ahead so might be the right time to check out the fourth section of the Barn.

Open this weekend regular hours, and Monday, after hosting Memorial Day Services here in Factoryville.

Come and check out, some of the new stuff. Started cutting and polishing our own stones, including Willemite, Septarian, Brazilian Agate, Coprolite, Moss Agate, and more.

Meet the new mascot, “Wally” and also have Memorial Day flags here for sale.

Set the first event for the summer, July 19, a drum circle with Pat from Montrose, looking to raise awareness for domestic violence, and will announce more events as the weeks go on.

Yesterday had the privilege of talking a little rock and gem stuff to the Daisies of the Abingtons Girl Scout Troop 50737.

Not only did we crack open some geodes, and fish fossils, they got to hold a meteorite, dinosaur egg, and see rocks that light up and float, along with various fossils, and gems.

We also went over what was needed to attain the Girl Scout Rocks and Mineral Patch.

How Gemstones and Minerals are created, Synthetic vs. Natural Gemstones, What are Geodes, Gemstones found in Pennsylvania, and where to look for them.

What started our at my swearing in ceremony as Mayor of Factoryville, before the Lackawanna Trail 5th and 6th grade, on a suggestion from our Junior Mayor, Colin Gow, to start an apple orchard, that suggestion came to life this weekend.

Yesterday, our community apple tree project was put to bed at least for this year, with the initial planting of 6 apple trees.

The goal over the years is for the graduating 6th grade to plant an additional 3 or 4 trees each year, with the hope they can return with their own children later in life, and show their kids where they planted their roots in Factoryville, and hopefully pick a few apples 🙂

Want to thank, Kara, Bubba and Brian Gow, and Kimberly Gallagher for their help in the planting process. A huge shout out to Kelly Stewart of Keystone College, who took time off to make sure the trees were properly planted, Colin Gow for representing the 5th grade, and Haileigh Gallagher for representing the 6th grade. Finally a thank you to our Factoryville Fire Auxiliary for not only protecting our community on a daily basis, but for also making sure the trees got properly watered.

Trees are planted at Creekside Park, and all trees were donated by community residents.

Looks like a pretty nice weekend ahead, and will be here through Sunday, our regular hours, and feel free to text if you need other times, so we can make it happen. 570-677-2607.

Getting ready for our spring and summer events, so bring a lunch and chill by the creek, do a little fishing, catch a ballgame, or walk the trail while you are in the area.

Making headway, on the 4th section, and finding stuff I forgot I had, along with gearing up some of our initiatives, including contacting elected officials, on our belief that we should be funding our National Parks, and not cutting budgets.

Outside of that just another crazy week at the barn, onwards and upwards, :)
