Most people know they should stretch.

The problem is, most people are guessing.

They stretch what feels tight, not necessarily what's causing the problem. They spend a few minutes on a muscle that's been screaming for attention, while completely missing the imbalance, compensation pattern, or restricted joint that's creating the issue in the first place.

Sometimes, working with people without specific chronic pain feels a lot like talking to my 8-year-old daughter about taking care of things now so they help later.

“Eat well.”
“Move your body often.”
“Save your money.”

I’m pretty sure an 8-year-old doesn’t care much about “future consequences.” 😂

Telling a 30-year-old they should stretch, improve mobility, and take care of their joints before the pain starts can feel exactly the same way.

But seriously, it matters.

Most major mobility problems don’t appear overnight. Tight hips, stiff shoulders, chronic back pain, knee issues, poor posture; they build slowly over years of neglect, compensation, and lack of movement.

Your body is incredibly good at adapting until it finally can’t anymore.

Mobility work isn’t about becoming a gymnast. It’s about preserving the ability to live actively, move confidently, and avoid unnecessary injuries and degeneration later in life.

Flexibility isn’t just about touching your toes, it’s about how well your body can actually handle life without complaining the entire time.

Here’s the truth: most “tightness” isn’t just tight muscles
 it’s often a mix of limited joint control, underused ranges of motion, and a nervous system that’s gotten a little too protective. So yes, stretching can help, but only when it’s paired with the right kind of movement and control.

At InMotion Wellness Studio, we focus on helping your body earn range of motion back, not just temporarily borrow it. That means improving how you move, not just how far you can pull a muscle.

So if your body feels like it’s auditioning for the role of “Tin Man,” don’t worry, that’s fixable. We just have to teach it better patterns, not just force it into shapes.

“Walked into InMotion Wellness Studio feeling like a certified potato-years of deconditioning, questionable life choices, and zero expectations. Honestly, I figured it was a total shot in the dark.
Then I met Mr. Jackson.
Somewhere between “why does my body move like this?” and “wait
 I can actually do that?” things started to click. By the time I left, I didn’t just feel better physically- I felt like I’d stumbled onto a path I didn’t even realize I needed.

Mr. Jackson clearly knows his stuff, but what really stands out is that he gives a damn. It’s not just about getting you through a session- it’s about actually helping you improve in a way that sticks.

I walked in half expecting nothing
 and walked out rethinking everything.
Not being dramatic, but I genuinely think every human should try this place at least once. Worst case, you stretch a little. Best case, you stop living life as a potato.”

❗Let us start by saying that this is an overall blanket statement. Everyone is different, and pain is highly individual, so take this as a general guide, not a one-size-fits-all prescription.

That said, these are 5 commonly helpful movements we often see people tolerate well and benefit from when dealing with general aches and stiffness in the knees, hips, low back, neck and shoulders.

1. 🏊Swimming/ Water Aerobics
Water reduces bodyweight stress on joints while still allowing you to move through a full range of motion. It’s one of the best ways to stay active without pounding irritated tissues, while improving circulation and overall mobility.

2. đŸŠ”Knee Extensions
Simple, controlled knee extensions help re-engage the quadriceps, which often “shut down” when the knee is painful. Strengthening this area can improve joint stability and reduce strain during walking and stairs.

3. đŸ€‘â€œNo Moneys” (Banded Pull-Aparts)
This targets the rotator cuff and upper back—two areas that play a huge role in shoulder stability. When these muscles are weak or inactive, the shoulder often compensates in ways that create discomfort or tightness.

4. đŸ™†â€â™‚ïžY-T-I Raises
A foundational movement for scapular control and postural strength. These help restore balance to the upper back and shoulders, especially for people who sit often or deal with neck/shoulder tension.

5. 🌉Glute Bridge Variations
Bridges activate the glutes, which are essential for supporting the low back, hips, and knees. When the glutes aren’t doing their job, other areas tend to overwork and become irritated.

The goal with all of these is to restore better movement patterns, improving support, and slowly building tolerance again.
