A piercing can look healed on the outside long before it’s fully healed on the inside.
Your body isn’t simply closing a wound—it’s building and strengthening an entirely new channel of tissue around the jewelry. That process happens in stages, and some swelling, tenderness, redness, and crusting can be a normal part of early healing.
This is why patience and proper aftercare matter. Changing your jewelry too soon, sleeping on the piercing, unnecessary touching, or repeated irritation can disrupt tissue that is still developing—even when everything looks fine from the outside.
Give your piercing the time it deserves. And if you’re ever unsure about what you’re seeing, stop by and let your piercer take a look before removing the jewelry yourself. 🖤
