🚲 It’s never too late to learn how to ride a bike!

Looking to learn a new skill, build confidence, or get back on a bike? The Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA), in partnership with the Montgomery County Department of Transportation, is offering Adult Learn to Ride classes throughout Montgomery County this fall!

Experienced instructors help participants learn the basics step-by-step, including balancing, pedaling, steering, starting, and stopping — all at their own pace. 🚴

📍 Upcoming classes are being offered around Montgomery County, with select opportunities also featuring free e-scooter training.

👤 Adults 18+
🚲 Bikes and helmets provided
💵 Bike classes: $10 for County residents
⚠️ Space is limited and classes fill quickly!

🚌📚 School is back in session, so please slow down and stay alert!

As students across Montgomery County return to school, we’re joining Montgomery County public safety officials in reminding everyone to use extra caution on our roads.

Drivers should watch for children walking or biking, slow down in school zones, obey crossing guards, and always be prepared to stop for school buses.

🛑 Remember: When a school bus has its red lights flashing and stop arm extended, drivers must stop and remain stopped. Oncoming traffic must also stop unless the roadway is divided by a physical median.

A few extra seconds of patience can make a big difference. Whether you're driving to work, heading into the community, or taking someone to an activity, slow down, stay alert, and help keep our students safe. 💛

The Maryland DDA Assistive Technology Fair is happening tomorrow in Columbia!

This FREE event will feature hands-on demonstrations of assistive technology and remote supports designed to help people with disabilities increase independence, safety, choice, and community connection.

Visitors can explore technology solutions, meet providers, ask questions, and learn about an Independent Smart Home concept showing how everyday technology can support greater independence at home.

It's National Waffle Day! 🧇

Our Social Media Group spent time this week debating the big waffle questions, and the results were delicious.

Almost everyone said yes to waffles, with toppings ranging from butter and maple syrup to chocolate, strawberries, and blueberries. When we asked sweet or savory, sweet won by a landslide, though Joey is firmly team fried chicken and waffles.

The waffles versus pancakes versus French toast debate got heated. Pancakes edged ahead, but waffles and French toast both had loyal fans. We also tested some bold combos: waffle pizza and waffle ice cream sandwiches were crowd favorites, while ham and cheese waffle sandwiches got a more mixed reaction.

Fun fact from the group: did you know there are more than 13 prominent types of waffles worldwide? Most of our group guessed false, so consider us all surprised.

¡Es el Día Nacional del Waffle! 🧇

Nuestro Grupo de Redes Sociales pasó la semana debatiendo las grandes preguntas sobre los waffles, y los resultados fueron deliciosos.

Casi todos dijeron que sí a los waffles, con ingredientes que van desde mantequilla y jarabe de maple hasta chocolate, fresas y arándanos. Cuando preguntamos dulce o salado, lo dulce ganó por mucho, aunque Joey prefiere el pollo frito con waffles.

El debate entre waffles, panqueques y tostadas francesas se puso intenso. Los panqueques tomaron una pequeña ventaja, pero tanto los waffles como las tostadas francesas tuvieron seguidores fieles. 🦋🌸 Experience the magic of butterflies in a sensory-friendly setting!

Montgomery Parks is offering a Sensory-Friendly Butterfly Experience at Brookside Gardens for visitors who may benefit from a calmer, less overwhelming environment.

During this special morning, the experience will feature limited capacity and natural lighting, allowing visitors to explore at their own pace as live butterflies flutter among the flowers. Fidgets will also be available, and staff will be on hand to help make the experience more comfortable. 💙

📸 Snap Squad is back in action!

After a couple of rainy weeks kept them from getting out, our Snap Squad Photography Group was excited to grab their cameras and head to Lake Whetstone yesterday! 🌳📷

The group explored the area, practiced their photography skills, and looked for interesting moments in nature and around the community to capture through their own perspectives.

One of the highlights of the day was spotting a baby turtle near the water! 🐢 One of our photographers captured this great shot while the group enjoyed getting an up-close look at some of the wildlife that calls our community home.

Photography is about more than taking pictures. It encourages us to slow down, explore our surroundings, get creative, and notice things we might otherwise walk right past. 💚

We're glad the weather finally cooperated and gave Snap Squad another opportunity to get outside and do what they enjoy!

Después de un par de semanas de lluvia que les impidieron salir, nuestro Grupo de Fotografía Snap Squad estaba emocionado de tomar sus cámaras y visitar Lake Whetstone ayer. 🌳📷

Montgomery Parks is offering Meaningful Day: Trail Trekker, a FREE 6-week inclusive walking program for individuals with disabilities, their friends, family, and community members.

Participants will explore accessible trails at Wheaton Regional Park, enjoy nature, meet new people, and stay active outdoors. The program is designed to improve physical fitness, build social connections, and develop new nature-based skills. 🍂💚

🌳💚 Looking for a meaningful way to give back this fall?

Montgomery Parks' Meaningful Day: Park Clean-Up invites adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to spend time outdoors, help clean up Plumgar Local Park, and learn more about caring for our local parks.

Participants will join Program Access and the Watershed Cleanups Volunteer Program to pick up trash while building friendships, staying active, and giving back to their community. Gloves, trash bags, and necessary tools will be provided!

💙 Happy National Nonprofit Day!

Today, our Social Media Group talked about nonprofits and the important role they play in our communities. Of course, one nonprofit our group knows especially well is Community Support Services!

We asked the people we support what makes CSS special to them.

Mike shared that CSS gives him opportunities to explore the community and has helped him advocate for his rights. Masha said CSS helps her become more independent, while Conrad appreciates being able to stay close to his family. Zoey values her volunteer opportunities, Emily loves seeing her friends, and Matija enjoys pursuing interests like art and knitting. ❤️
