Today for day four of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, it is World Leukemia day.

Both of these pictures of Boogy were taken roughly 3 weeks before her diagnosis. When I look at them now, I see how pale she was but that was it, the only indicator. She was chipper, active, slept just fine, no pain. Its crazy to me to think that was essentially her only sign, paleness. It wasn't until the day before she was life flighted that we had any different signs. A bloody nose that lasted 3+ hours, and a nap that she still acted lethargic from. That was basically it. Which at the time, we thought the bloody nose was from change of environment and wood stove heat. And we thought the lethargic feeling and paleness was from being sad from recently losing her grandpa and a sudden decision to move two hours away from where we had lived the last three years.

After her diagnosis, we've heard and read several stories of other parents with similar stories. Very little signs. A little leg pain, bloody noses lasting for hours, strange bruising that seemed to come from nowhere. Leukemia is very sneaky. We're continually thankful for our amazing doctor who knew immediately and got her to the best care possible.🎗🧡

Day three of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and another round of appointments for Boogy. Today is endocrinology with the amazing Dr Flynn. The kids love coming here, he always gives fun toys! Today we will go over Boogy's round of steroids and her insulin plan for it.

Childhood cancer awareness month day 2. Boogy will have a lumbar puncture, physical therapy and tomorrow an endocrinology appointment. Her clinic gave out buttons and she picked one that says, "Hey Cancer, you picked the wrong kid!" I completely agree, cancer may have taken some things from her but it definitely didn't take her personality or positivity!

Boogy had a good procedure day. She also was seen by the physical therapist for some leg/foot pains. We'll do some exercises at home and reevaluate in a couple months to see if that helps or if she needs further intervention. Steroids do a number on bones, so we're hoping its caused from the Vinchristine instead.

One year ago I had to shave my daughter's head. Nothing I ever thought I'd do. It was horrible and full of tears. One year later, look at all that hair! I still have a small heart attack each time I run my hand through her hair and a more than normal amount comes out, I'm sure I'll feel that way for awhile. There's no guarantee that she isn't done losing it, but at least we've gotten a full year with her new, beautiful hair! We'll enjoy every minute of it and her 🧡

Boogy started Maintenance phase 4 on Friday! She didn't have her normal lumbar puncture that happens on day 1 of each phase, instead she will have it in 4 weeks (day 29) she did however start the normal steroid pulse that happens at the start of each Maintenance phase. Steroids suck and I hate them so much but it is a big reminder of how far she's come. Now instead of feeling this way most days, its just one week every three months, which I'm thankful for. I just wish she didn't have to feel it at all. Luckily she understands and knows things should be back to normal in a week or so. Her numbers are decent for what they want them at so keeping her at 50% chemo may be the trick. So for this week its pills, pills, more pills, insulin, injections, feeling crummy and lots of naps.
