Broadscope Disability Services was grateful for the opportunity to be part of the Southeastern Wisconsin United Way campaign event at MATC!

It was wonderful to connect with potential donors and meet so many incredible local nonprofits working to create lasting change, break down barriers, and build more inclusive communities.

The highlight? Seeing accessibility in action at MATC! From accessible van parking and Braille signage to ramps throughout campus, it was encouraging to see accessibility thoughtfully incorporated into the campus environment.

A big thank-you to United Way for bringing together organizations that are making a meaningful difference in our communities!

Chris’s story, in his own words. From finding a job to building a career, his journey shows what’s possible when opportunity meets support.

Through Broadscope’s Employment Services, Chris found employment at Beyond Vision, where he now works 40 hours a week—an incredible achievement! Hear Chris share his experience, alongside his supervisor, DeLonna Williams-Lewis and learn how the right support can make a lasting difference.

Broadscope helps adults with diverse abilities find and maintain competitive employment through job placement, coaching, and employer partnerships. Beyond Vision creates meaningful career opportunities, with a focus on empowering people who are blind or visually impaired.

Together, Broadscope and Beyond Vision are opening doors, building independence, and improving lives through meaningful work. That’s the power of partnership.

Today, we remember RJ Mitte, who passed away at the age of 34, and honor the lasting impact he made on disability awareness and inclusion.

Best known for his role as Walter White Jr. in Breaking Bad, RJ portrayed a teenager with cerebral palsy, a condition he had lived with since toddlerhood himself. Beyond the screen, he used his platform to challenge stereotypes and advocate for greater opportunities and representation for people with disabilities.

In 2012, RJ joined us at Taste of Milwaukee as our United Cerebral Palsy Youth Ambassador. During his visit, he shared these powerful words:

“UCP is an amazing organization that helps a spectrum of disabilities. What's awesome is that they actually get people jobs. They show that just because someone is disabled it doesn't mean that they are disabled. When people say, ‘No, you can't,’ they say, ‘Yes, you can.’”

We are grateful to have shared a part of RJ’s journey and remember him with deep respect for his advocacy and the legacy he leaves behind. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.

Good friends, yard games, and a little microphone magic! 🎤

Our Broadscope Disability Services picnic was full of smiles, laughter, and connection! Individuals from our programs reconnected with friends, met new faces, and took turns at the microphone to share something they love about themselves, appreciate about Broadscope, or simply pass it along.

One highlight? Handing out extra Joe’s Run, Walk & Roll T-shirts! Some guests were so excited they put theirs on right over the clothes they were already wearing!

At Broadscope, inclusion is about more than programs and services. It’s about belonging, building friendships, and creating memories together!

Recently, our clients from Broadscope’s Independent Living Program and Employment Services Program had the chance to experience Milwaukee from a whole new perspective! 🚤

We enjoyed a Milwaukee River boat tour where we learned about the city’s history while taking in some incredible views from the water. We got to see the Milwaukee Art Museum, Jones Island, and the Milwaukee skyline along the way.

And, of course, Michael came prepared with his very own pirate hat! 🏴‍☠️

To wrap up the adventure, we shared our favorite parts of the boat ride and reflected on everything we saw and learned. It was a fun day of exploring, learning, and enjoying our city together!
