One more round probably seems harmless. But for men's health specifically, the evidence around alcohol is worth knowing. 🍺

Regular alcohol consumption — even moderate amounts — is linked to increased body fat, reduced muscle mass, worsened cardiovascular health, and significantly elevated risk of GI cancers including colorectal, esophageal, and liver. Alcohol disrupts sleep architecture, suppresses testosterone, and raises estrogen levels — the opposite of what most men are working toward.

There is no amount of alcohol that reduces cancer risk. The ""heart-healthy glass of wine"" narrative has been substantially walked back by more recent research.

The American College of Lifestyle Medicine includes avoidance of risky substances as one of its six foundational health pillars — not as a moral position, but because awareness matters. 💚

Happy Father's Day to every dad, grandfather, bonus dad, and man who shows up for the people counting on him. 🎉💚

Today feels like a good time to say: the best thing you can give the people who love you is a healthy version of yourself. Not a perfect one — a healthy one. The kind that actually goes to the doctor, gets some movement in, and pays attention when something feels off.

From all of us at Crossroads Family Medicine — Happy Father's Day. You're worth taking care of. 💚

Teen boys who v**e are often not thinking about their lungs. They're thinking about stress relief. That's the part worth talking about. 💚

Ni****ne — whether from ci******es or a v**e — activates the same reward pathways as other substances and provides short-term anxiety reduction. For adolescent boys who don't have other tools for managing stress, va**ng can become a way to cope. The problem: ni****ne dependence develops faster in adolescent brains, the habit is harder to break the longer it continues, and the health effects are real — lung inflammation, increased cardiovascular risk, impaired athletic performance, and hormonal disruption.

For many teen boys, the entry point isn't peer pressure. It's self-medication.
If your son is va**ng, the most useful conversation isn't just "stop." It's asking what's driving it. 💚

At Crossroads, we take teen health seriously — including the mental health side. Call (317) 943-8793 or visit crossroadsfammed.com to learn about family membership.

Low testosterone is one of the most common concerns men bring up — and one of the most misunderstood. 💚

Here's something important: body fat and testosterone have a direct relationship. Fat tissue — especially visceral fat — contains an enzyme that converts testosterone into estrogen. The more excess body fat you carry, the lower your free testosterone tends to run. It becomes a feedback loop: low T makes it harder to lose weight, and excess weight suppresses T further.

What actually helps? Weight management through consistent movement and a nutrient-dense diet. Resistance training in particular supports testosterone levels. Sleep matters here too — most testosterone production happens during deep sleep, and chronic sleep deprivation measurably lowers levels.

Before jumping to supplementation or hormone therapy, lifestyle optimization is step one. 💚

Concerned about testosterone levels? Let's look at the full picture together. Call (317) 943-8793 or visit crossroadsfammed.com.
