June is Men's Health Month — and at Crossroads, we think men deserve more than a "go get a checkup" reminder. 💚

Men are less likely to seek care, less likely to talk about what's going on with their bodies, and statistically more likely to die earlier from preventable conditions. That's not destiny. That's a gap we can close.

This month we're getting into the specifics: protein, hormones, heart health, prostate screening, what alcohol actually does to your body, the mental toll of loneliness, and what your teenager's va**ng habit might really be about. Stay with us. 💚

Women's health is not one size fits all. It's not one appointment a year. It's not "your labs are normal, see you next time." 💚

At Crossroads, Dr. Cadle practices direct primary care — which means longer appointments, direct access by phone or text, and care that actually accounts for where you are in life. Because what matters at 17 is different from what matters at 35, and different again at 52.

Women's Health Month is a good reminder that the standard of care you deserve exists. It just might not be what you've experienced yet. 💚

Curious what DPC looks like in practice? Schedule a free Meet-n-Greet with Dr. Cadle at crossroadsfammed.com or call (317) 943-8793.

Here's something worth sitting with: only 20-35% of variation in human lifespan is determined by your fixed genetic factors. The rest? Lifestyle. 🧬💚

This is what epigenetics means in plain language — your genes load the gun, but your lifestyle pulls the trigger. What you eat, how you move, how you sleep, how you manage stress — these things literally turn genes on and off.

And for women, this matters across every stage of life. A mother's lifestyle and environment during pregnancy affects which genes are expressed in her child. The lifestyle choices made in your 30s and 40s shape your biology in menopause. The habits you build now determine a lot about how you age.

The American College of Lifestyle Medicine is built on this foundation — that lifestyle is the most powerful medicine we have. It's also why Dr. Cadle practices the way she does. 💚

Let's talk about two things that don't get enough honest conversation in women's health: alcohol and va**ng/to***co. 🚫

Alcohol is often framed as heart-healthy in small amounts — but the picture for women is more complicated. Alcohol worsens hot flashes and night sweats during menopause, disrupts sleep architecture, and the carcinogenic evidence is clear. There is no amount of alcohol that reduces cancer risk.

Va**ng and to***co affect hormonal health, accelerate skin aging, compromise bone density, and significantly raise cardiovascular risk — effects that are amplified in women, particularly post-menopause when estrogen is no longer providing cardiovascular protection.

The American College of Lifestyle Medicine includes avoidance of risky substances as one of its six foundational pillars — not because perfection is the goal, but because awareness matters. 💚

If you have questions about how lifestyle habits are affecting your health, that's what Dr. Cadle is here for. Email [email protected] or visit crossroadsfammed.com.

Here's something research has confirmed over and over: social connection is a health issue. 🤝

Loneliness increases risk of early death from 14% to nearly 23%. For women in particular — through the exhausting years of raising children, navigating career demands, and supporting everyone around them — meaningful connection with a partner, friends, and community often falls to the bottom of the list.

For teenage girls, peer connection is everything — but it comes with real pressure around body image and identity. For women in midlife, the data on "Roseto effect" communities is striking: close-knit social bonds were protective against heart disease even when other risk factors were present.

Taking time with people who fill you up isn't a luxury. It's a pillar of your health. 💚

At Crossroads, we look at the full picture — including what your life actually looks like. Call us at (317) 943-8793 to learn about DPC membership.

What was for dinner?
I tried something a bit different with roasted fennel and chick peas with mint, basil and marjoram
My salad bed is purple kale, dandelions, butter lettuce
Added mango and walnuts to the mix and topped it with some fennel tops!
Good, bad or otherwise; put a pic of the last food you took a pic of!
