Day 5 is in the books! The end to week one of the NARMC MASH program. Wow! What an exciting week. Today started with a hands-on presentation with emergency/trauma equipment. The students go to see the equipment and understand its purpose. The students then heard from our quality department and how they help the patient through the hospital stay. Sourthern Legacy of Life did a presentation on organ donation and recovery. The students then had their group picture taken and were treated to lunch provided by T's BBQ. We sure enjoy our food sponsors and can't thank them enough for providing meals for the students. Then they got to hear about the field of Respiratory Therapy and how they provide care for patients. The students then got to take a complete tour of the facility learning how important a job our Engineering and Maintenance depts. have of keeping the facility running and safe. Finally the students got to participate in a geriatric activity and see firsthand how it feels to start to lose vision, sensation, and balance. The students will start their shadowing of different areas next week and have special activities every day. Hope they rest up. Until then enjoy the photos and get ready for next week.

Day 4 is in the books!
Wow, what a busy day. We started the morning with a trip to the Radiology Dept. to learn about x-rays and all the other types of radiology exams. The students then got to hear from our own EMS about dispatching and how the 911 system works. Next, they heard from the director of pharmacy. Then they received a SANE presentation and learned how those who are abused are supported and taken care of in our community. Then back to touring again where the students had a chance to see our therapy departments which includes, occupational, physical, and speech therapy. Lunch was provided by Little Caesars of Harrison and we really appreciate our food sponsors. The students were then back on the go to surgery where they got to rescue gummies from Mr. Boxley using the laparoscopic machine. Finally the stuents got to put together information they have learned this week and do a Mass Casualty drill using disaster triage skills and race against each other. You can see those that won in the pictures. Come back tomorrow to see day 5 and the end of week 1. We are so thankful for our students and the time and effort they are putting into learning all about healthcare. See you tomorrow!

MASH Day 3 is in the books!
Today was another busy and exciting day for our MASH students.
We started the morning with Stop the Bleed training, where students learned how to identify severe bleeding and the steps they can take to help in an emergency. After that, they spent time with our Disaster Management team learning how the hospital prepares for disasters and large-scale emergencies.
For lunch, Town House Café treated us to a great meal. We are very thankful for their continued support of the MASH program and our students.
In the afternoon, the students toured the Claude Parrish Cancer Center and learned about the services provided there. They got to see firsthand how patients are cared for throughout their cancer journey and learn more about the different roles involved in that care.
We wrapped up the day learning about IO's (Intraosseous Access). Students learned when IO's are used, why they are important in emergency situations, and got a closer look at the equipment used to place them.
Overall, it was a great day filled with hands-on learning and new experiences. We are looking forward to another fun day tomorrow!

MASH Day 2 is in the books! It was another exciting day with lots of activivities. The morning started with a presentation called through the eyes of the patient. This allowed the students to see what patients see when they are in the hospital or clinic. Next the students got to hear about a career in EMS and tour an NARMC Ambulance. The students then received a tour of the Emergency Room followed by a tour of the Critical Care Unit and the Medical Surgical area with attention to orthopedic injuries and treatments. Lunch was provided by Western Sizzlin of Harrison and we so appreciate our food sponsors for feeding the students. After lunch the students took a tour of the Lab and got to do a hand swipe test and will get to see the results tomorrow of any bacteria and growth on their hands. Next the students heard about stroke treatment and care in Arkansas and at NARMC using the IDHI program. Finally the students finished with a tour to Air Evac and seeing the helicopter along with a tour to OB and learning all about delivering of babies and their care. I think with may have some future OB nurses in this years class. Enjoy the picures and watch for more fun tomorrow!

MASH Day 1 is in the books! It was so exciting for the Education Team to meet this years MASH Students. They had plenty of time to learn the rules and regulations today. But then this afternoon they had the chance to learn CPR and 1st Aid. This morning they learned about the shortage of primary care doctors in Arkansas and about HIPAA. Lunch was provided by McDonald's North and we sure appreciate our sponsors. Thanks for the great meal. The students were tired of sitting but tomorrow you will get to see them up and going. M*A*S*H is coming to NARMC. Next week will begin the two-week program sponsored by Farm Bureau and UAMS. The Students will spend their time learning about healthcare and the many different roles in healthcare. Watch for more information with pictures of the students getting hands on experience.
