MASH 2026 is done and we are completing the paperwork but we would like to take a few minutes to thank our wonderful sponsors. First we would like to thank Farm Bureau for being the Lead Sponsor and UAMS for facilitating the program. Here at NARMC we would like to thank all the clinics, the different departments and all the employees, without you we would not be successful. We would like to show our appreciation to our community sponsors who provided supplies and or food. Makin' Bacon, North Arkansas College, McDonalds North, Townhouse Cafe, Neighbors Mill, Little Caesars, Western Sizzlin, Nopalitos, T's BBQ, Culver's, and Dominos. The MASH program here at NARMC would not be successful without all these wonderful people. We would also like to thank this years students who took two weeks out of their schedule to come spend time with us. We hope as a result they are all successful in their future career choices.

MASH 2026 is officially in the books! Today was graduation day. The morning started with a presentation on Airway Managment by Educations own Brian Unruh, NRP. it is a foundational skill in emergency medicine, anesthesiology, and critical care, as failure to secure and maintain a patent airway can lead to brain damage or death according to the NEJM. According to the NAP4 study 61% of ICU airway events and 31% of ER airway events lead to death or neurological injury. What does all of that mean? It means learning how to keep an airway open can be one of the most important skills the students learn and hopefully they took that information with them. Then they heard about preparing for college and about looking up resources for school and their careers. Finally their graduation speech was provided by Sammie Cribbs Roberson, MSN, AGCNS-BC, APRN, President and CEO of NARMC. They ended the day with a cookie celebration, recieving their gifts, and their completion certificates. While we are sad to see the students go, we are excited for what they can do in the future in the healthcare field. We hope they don't forget us because we will not forget them. Week 2, Day 4 is in the books. We started this morning with shadow opportunities and the students got to visit the following places: Heartland Eye Clinic, wound care, EMS, CPCC, ER, Imaging, Rehab services, OB, CCU, House Supervisor, Cornerstone Medical Clinic, Harrison Animal Clinic. The students had 3 shadow opprotunities each today. Lunch was provided by Nopalitos and we want to thank our food sponsors for all their help. The day ended with Dr. Coble showing the students how to suture and allowing them to practice, but not on each other! He also covered sterile technique and how to prevent infections. Tomorrow will be the last day of MASH, we have let the students see the inside workings in healthcare and NARMC. Our hope from the Education Dept. is that they have enjoyed their time with us and we have provided them an insight into all the different careers that are available and so needed. Come back tomorrow to see their last day.

Week 2, Day 3! The morning started with a trip to U of A at NorthArk simulation lab where the students got a chance to pratice their skills on various patient care scenarios. Next the students had a chance to shadow in the following places: CPCC, imaging, rehab, CCU, ER, EMS, OB, wound care, Keener Dentistry, Primary & Obstetrical Care. Lunch was provided by Domino's Pizza and it was wonderful. The day finished with a trip to wound care to learn all about wound healing and skin care. The students got to see how well they wash their hands. They came back to the classroom and competed in a CPR challenge before going home. Special thanks to Vi the simulation Director at U of A Northark for the hospitality and wonderful cookies! Our food sponsors every day who have went above and beyond for our students. MASH Week #2, Day 2 is in the books. The students started with shadowing experiences again today. They were in surgery, Pharmacy, Imaging, ER, Doctor's offices, Lab, Rehab services, Harrison Animal Clinic, CPCC (Cancer Center), CCU, and Wound Care. Lunch was provided by Neighbors Mill and we really appreciate our food sponsors and the wonderful food. The day ended with a fun activity. The students got a chance to dissect a beef heart and learn the anatomy our instruction was provided by Dr. Brigette Kampfe of North Arkansas College. Week #2 of the MASH program at NARMC started today and wow was it busy. The students got to do 3 shadow opprotunities each and those included everything from surgery, CCU, pharmacy, OB, Imaging, Lab, House Supervisor, Rehab, doctors offices, EMS, eye doctors, and even Harrison Animal Clinic. Lunch was provided by Culver's and we appreciate all our food sponsors! It was really good. The day ended with a splinting activity taught by Shelton and Delbert who covered the different types of splints and the students got to practice. Watch for tomorrows exciting activity!

Day 5 is in the books! The end to week one of the NARMC MASH program. Wow! What an exciting week. Today started with a hands-on presentation with emergency/trauma equipment. The students go to see the equipment and understand its purpose. The students then heard from our quality department and how they help the patient through the hospital stay. Sourthern Legacy of Life did a presentation on organ donation and recovery. The students then had their group picture taken and were treated to lunch provided by T's BBQ. We sure enjoy our food sponsors and can't thank them enough for providing meals for the students. Then they got to hear about the field of Respiratory Therapy and how they provide care for patients. The students then got to take a complete tour of the facility learning how important a job our Engineering and Maintenance depts. have of keeping the facility running and safe. Finally the students got to participate in a geriatric activity and see firsthand how it feels to start to lose vision, sensation, and balance. The students will start their shadowing of different areas next week and have special activities every day. Hope they rest up. Until then enjoy the photos and get ready for next week.

Day 4 is in the books!
Wow, what a busy day. We started the morning with a trip to the Radiology Dept. to learn about x-rays and all the other types of radiology exams. The students then got to hear from our own EMS about dispatching and how the 911 system works. Next, they heard from the director of pharmacy. Then they received a SANE presentation and learned how those who are abused are supported and taken care of in our community. Then back to touring again where the students had a chance to see our therapy departments which includes, occupational, physical, and speech therapy. Lunch was provided by Little Caesars of Harrison and we really appreciate our food sponsors. The students were then back on the go to surgery where they got to rescue gummies from Mr. Boxley using the laparoscopic machine. Finally the stuents got to put together information they have learned this week and do a Mass Casualty drill using disaster triage skills and race against each other. You can see those that won in the pictures. Come back tomorrow to see day 5 and the end of week 1. We are so thankful for our students and the time and effort they are putting into learning all about healthcare. See you tomorrow!
