grew out of a concern many families in the Virginia Mennonite Conference had in the late 1960's; what would happen to their family member with an intellectual disability if they were no longer able to care for him or her. The doors to our first home, now known as Turner House, opened in March 1971. has grown from a six-person group home to a multidimensional agency with a variety of day and reside

ntial services and supports. Although many came from all areas of Virginia and beyond, the majority are from the Harrisonburg/Rockingham community. Many religious backgrounds are represented including Mennonite, Brethren, Presbyterian, Jewish, Catholic, and United Church of Christ. We hope you are having a great beginning to September. It is hard to think about September without thinking of new outfits, especially with the beginning of school and living in a college town.

Rene went shopping this week to get some new outfits at Ross and party bags. Can you relate to her expression of bliss from a good shopping day?

It helps to have someone with you who knows you well and listens to what you really want. It can make or break the trip.

On Friday, the James Madison University Dukes Making A Difference students arrived early and ready to go. They helped with some cleaning projects before helping people into the day program. We had a fun trip to Mr. J's Bagels & Deli, played games, and got to know each other better.

From the beginning of Dukes Making a Difference (DMAD) in 2022, Pleasant View has welcomed freshmen and new transfer students to learn about their new community. Today we had a great group led by a long-time APO volunteer, Anna Lienard, and Stephen Thiong. We enjoyed art projects, puzzles, games, and a dance party together. We look forward to more time with them tomorrow.

April loves country music and football. When she found out that Clay Walker and Spencer Hatcher were performing at the Rockingham County Fair fair, she let everyone know she wanted to go. She and Emily, Moyers Apartment Program Manager, enjoyed the concert on Tuesday night and took full advantage of the experience: pictures with the band and photo booth pictures.

What are your favorite things to do at the Rockingham County Fair? Tom, Chuck, Jenni, and I were animal and garden focused today. We enjoyed:

*Exotic petting zoo
*Poultry building
*Bunnies 🐰
*Ducklings sliding down the slide
*Chicks 🐥
*Beehive 🐝
*Scarecrows
*Garden flowers and vegetables 🌺 🍅
*Music 🎶
