Kisspeptin is a naturally occurring neuropeptide produced from the KISS1 gene. It is a key regulator of the reproductive hormone system and acts by stimulating the release of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) from the hypothalamus. This, in turn, increases luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), which regulate testosterone production, ovulation, and fertility.

Researchers are investigating kisspeptin for several applications:

* Male infertility: May stimulate natural testosterone production in men with certain forms of hypogonadism.

* Female infertility: Has been studied as a trigger for egg maturation during IVF, with some evidence suggesting a lower risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) compared with traditional triggers.

* Delayed puberty and hypothalamic reproductive disorders: Experimental use in patients with impaired GnRH secretion.

* Sexual desire disorders: Early clinical studies suggest it may influence brain regions involved in sexual desire and emotional processing, but it is not an approved treatment for low libido.
