Do you have a toddler who is just starting to talk? 💜

You may be wondering if the words they’re saying “count” when they don’t sound exactly right yet.

Swipe through the slides to learn how word approximations are a normal part of language development! 🗣️

Many children simplify words as they learn to communicate. What matters is that they are using those sounds consistently and intentionally to express meaning.

Remember, every child develops at their own pace, and speech doesn’t have to be perfect to be meaningful.

However, if you feel your child is struggling to communicate, has very few words, or seems significantly behind their peers, don’t hesitate to seek guidance from a speech-language pathologist.

✨ Early support can make a world of difference!

🗣️ A word doesn’t have to be perfect to count as a word!

Many parents worry when their child says “wawa” instead of “water” or “nana” instead of “banana.”

The good news? 💜

If your child consistently uses a sound, syllable, or approximation to refer to the same object or person, it counts as a meaningful word!

Communication develops before pronunciation becomes perfect.

Instead of focusing on saying the word correctly, celebrate the attempt and model the correct word back:

👶 “Wawa!”
🧑 “Yes! Water! You want water.”

These early approximations are an important step in language development and show that your child is making connections between words and meaning.

Every word starts somewhere. 🌱

Concerned about your child’s speech or language development? Early support can make a big difference.

Did you know that the first few years of life are the most crucial for speech and language development? 🗣️✨
Every single milestone counts, and watching them go from sweet little babbles to full ideas is an amazing journey. Here is a quick guide to the speech milestones your little one typically reaches in their first 3 years:
👶 6 months: Babbling begins! This is how they explore their own voice.
☝️ 1 year: Those long-awaited first words finally appear.
✌️ 2 years: They start combining 2 to 3 words (e.g., “more milk,” “mommy go”).
🤟 3 years: They are now forming complete sentences to communicate!
Remember, every child grows at their own pace 👣, but knowing these stages helps us better support them along the way.
What stage is your little one in right now? Let us know in the comments below! 👇

Looks like play… but it’s so much more 🤍

While playing with playdough, we’re working on:
✔️ language development
✔️ following directions
✔️ fine motor skills
✔️ creativity & imagination
✔️ communication

Because children learn best through play, connection, and interaction.

In therapy, every activity has a purpose—even the ones that look simple.

At Arley Therapy Services, we turn play into progress 💫

If your child is struggling with communication or development, early support can make a big difference.

Many parents focus on one thing: “Why isn’t my child talking yet?”

But communication is so much more than just words…

Before speech develops, children need a strong foundation:
✔️ attention & listening
✔️ play skills
✔️ understanding language
✔️ social connection

That’s why we use the Communication Pyramid—because speech is actually at the TOP, not the beginning.

If the base isn’t strong, speech becomes harder to develop.

At Arley Therapy Services, we don’t just work on “talking"; we build the foundation that makes communication possible. 🤍

If you’re concerned about your child’s development, don’t wait. Early support makes all the difference.

Dissociation in autism is real… and often misunderstood.

At Arley Therapy Services, we guide families in understanding these moments and responding in ways that truly help their child.

Sensory overload, anxiety, and emotional stress can lead to moments where a child feels disconnected from their body, their thoughts, or their surroundings.

This can look like:
• not responding
• seeming “lost”
• difficulty communicating
• or shutting down

The key is not to push… but to support and regulate 🤍

Grounding strategies can help bring them back to the present safely and gently.

At Arley Therapy Services, we guide families on how to understand these moments and respond in a way that truly helps their child.

If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone—and support is available.

What happens at 12 months matters more than many parents realize 🤍

Early language skills — like babbling, responding to sounds, using gestures, and attempting first words — are strong indicators of how communication may develop later on.

This doesn’t mean everything is fixed at 12 months… but it does highlight how important early support and interaction can be.

The good news?
There is so much we can do early on to support communication development.

📩 If you have questions about your child’s language development, we’re here to guide you.
