For some people, it is a terrible night of sleep. For others, it is skipping breakfast, going too long without eating, a high-stress morning, or stacking a hard workout on top of an already packed day.

Energy is one of those things we often try to fix with caffeine first, but the pattern usually tells us more.

A few things that can quietly drain your energy:

Poor sleep
Blood sugar swings
Under-eating
Low protein intake
Dehydration
Iron or B12 issues
Thyroid dysfunction
Hormonal changes
High stress
Too much training and not enough recovery

The interesting part is that fatigue rarely shows up in isolation. It often comes with clues like cravings, brain fog, poor recovery, irritability, headaches, feeling cold, or that classic 3 p.m. crash.

What tends to tank your energy the fastest? Drop yours below!

We talk a lot about protein, sleep, steps, blood sugar, supplements, and strength training. But your health is also shaped by whether you feel connected, whether you laugh often, whether you have people you can talk to, and whether there is any actual fun in your week.

Strong social connection has been linked with better mental health, lower stress, healthier aging, and even lower risk of early mortality. Laughter and enjoyable experiences can also help shift your body out of constant stress mode and give your nervous system a chance to recover.

All of that matters because chronic stress does not stay in one lane. It can affect sleep, digestion, appetite, blood sugar, immune function, and recovery.

Sometimes the healthiest thing you can do is dinner with people you love, a walk with a friend, laughing until your stomach hurts, or doing something you are bad at just because it is fun.

Health is also built in the parts of your life that make you feel connected, engaged, and alive.

Melatonin is one of the most common sleep supplements, and it is easy to assume that a higher dose will work better. For some people, the opposite happens.

Higher doses can lead to vivid dreams, morning grogginess, headaches, or feeling like your sleep was more disrupted than restorative.

Melatonin is a hormone that helps signal to your body that it is time to sleep. Because of that, timing can matter just as much as dose. It can be useful in certain situations, especially when sleep timing is off, but it is not always the best fit for every kind of insomnia.

If you are taking melatonin every night and still waking up tired, feeling foggy in the morning, or needing to keep increasing the dose, that is worth reassessing.

Always speak with a qualified healthcare practitioner about whether melatonin is appropriate for you, what dose makes sense, how long to use it, and whether other sleep issues should be evaluated.

Cortisol and thyroid function are closely connected, and ongoing stress can influence several systems involved in energy, metabolism, and hormone regulation.

Here are 5 signs stress may be affecting more than your mood:

You’re tired even after a full night’s sleep
Your brain feels foggy or your focus is off
Your energy crashes during the day
Your weight feels harder to manage
You just don’t feel like yourself lately

These symptoms can have many causes, which is exactly why it helps to understand what may be happening beneath the surface.

POTS, or postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, is a form of autonomic dysfunction where the body has trouble regulating heart rate and blood flow when you move upright.

Common clues can include:

Lightheadedness: especially after standing
Racing heart: often with position changes
Exercise intolerance: workouts may feel disproportionately hard
Heat sensitivity: hot showers or warm weather can make symptoms worse
Fatigue + brain fog: often worse after being upright for long periods
Feeling better lying down: a pretty important clue

POTS can overlap with other conditions, so proper evaluation matters. It is not something to self-diagnose from one symptom or a smartwatch reading.

But if you keep thinking, “Why does standing, showering, or walking around make me feel this bad?” that deserves a closer look.

If this sounds familiar, book a consultation so we can look at your symptoms, triggers, and the bigger autonomic picture.

If your routine is basically “grab the handful and take everything with breakfast,” you may want to look at what is actually in that stack.

Some nutrients can compete for absorption, especially when they are taken in higher-dose supplement form.

Calcium + Iron: These are better taken at different times when iron absorption is a priority.
Iron + Zinc: Higher-dose iron can reduce zinc absorption when they are taken together, so spacing them out can be helpful.
Zinc + Copper: High-dose zinc over time can interfere with copper absorption, which is why zinc is not something to keep adding indefinitely without a reason.
High-dose Zinc + Magnesium: Very high amounts of zinc may interfere with magnesium absorption. This tends to matter more with larger supplemental doses.

Comment below if you want help figuring out which ones may be better taken together, separated, or reviewed altogether.

Feeling tired, foggy, wired, or just not quite like yourself?

It’s easy to blame a busy schedule, poor sleep, or “just stress.” But when those symptoms keep hanging around, there may be more going on.

Cortisol and thyroid function are closely connected, and chronic stress can influence the way your body regulates energy, metabolism, sleep, and hormones.

Most people think fatty liver is mainly about alcohol, weight, or diet. But obstructive sleep apnea is also associated with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease, or MASLD.

Why?

Sleep apnea causes repeated drops in oxygen overnight. Over time, that intermittent hypoxia can add stress to metabolic pathways already involved in insulin resistance and liver fat accumulation. So if someone has fatty liver and snores heavily, wakes up exhausted, gets morning headaches, or feels sleepy despite getting enough hours in bed, sleep deserves attention.

That is the kind of connection we care about.

If you have fatty liver and feel like you have only been told to “eat better and lose weight,” book a consultation and let’s look at the bigger metabolic picture.

Health optimization should look a lot more like real life and a lot less like a full-time tracking job. Yes, data can be useful. Labs can be useful. Wearables can be useful. Supplements can be useful. But your health is bigger than a dashboard.

Here’s what health optimization should really look like:

Energy: steady enough to get through your day without living on caffeine or crashing by mid-afternoon.
Sleep: waking up feeling restored more often than not, with a routine that supports real recovery.
Strength: maintaining muscle, mobility, and physical capacity so your body can keep doing what you ask of it as you age.
Metabolic health: supporting healthy blood sugar, insulin sensitivity, triglycerides, appetite, and energy.
Cardiovascular health: paying attention to blood pressure, aerobic fitness, cholesterol patterns, daily movement, and family history.
Nutrition: getting enough protein, fiber, healthy fats, and nutrient-dense foods without turning every meal into a spreadsheet.
Digestion: regular bowel movements, comfortable digestion, and fewer issues with bloating, reflux, or unpredictable symptoms.
Recovery: being able to train, work, travel, and handle stressful seasons without feeling completely depleted.
Hormones: understanding how thyroid function, reproductive hormones, stress physiology, and metabolic health may be influencing how you feel.
Bone health: protecting bone density and strength through resistance training, appropriate impact, nutrition, and hormone awareness.
Brain health: supporting focus, memory, mood, and cognitive function through sleep, movement, metabolic health, and stress management.
Preventive care: staying on top of screenings, labs, blood pressure, family history, and the health markers that matter before something becomes a bigger issue.
Testing: using labs and advanced testing when they answer a meaningful clinical question, rather than ordering everything just because it exists.
Supplements: using them strategically and intentionally, with a clear reason for why they are in your plan.
Stress: having enough recovery built into your life that your body is not constantly trying to catch up.
