Green space offers benefits that extend far beyond visual beauty — it can have a profound therapeutic effect on the nervous system.
Research has shown that spending time in nature may help reduce stress hormones, promote mental calmness, improve mood, and support cognitive function. One well-known practice is forest bathing (Shinrin-yoku), which originated in Japan. Rather than focusing on physical exercise, forest bathing emphasizes slowing down and intentionally engaging with the sights, sounds, scents, and atmosphere of the natural environment.
Exposure to nature provides the brain and central nervous system with an opportunity to reset, regulate, and restore balance. In many cases, healing can be found in simple experiences such as sunlight filtering through trees, fresh air, and moments of quiet reflection.
