Vigilance isn't a flaw.

It's what a nervous system does when it loves you (which it does. always).

For most q***r folks, that tracking runs constantly in the background — reading rooms, calculating risk, managing how much of yourself is okay to show right now.
It's not paranoia. It's not anxiety.

It's the body doing its job. Doing it well. Doing it without a break.
And that costs something.

The part that doesn't get talked about enough: feeling safe isn't just about being safe. There's a gap between the two — and a lot of us live in that gap.

Somatic practice is one of the few things I know that actually starts to close it. Not by bypassing the vigilance. By giving the nervous system something else to organize around.

✨ Try this right now:
Sit wherever you are. Don't fix your posture — just notice it.

On your next inhale, let your chest rise just slightly. On your exhale, let everything release without pushing.

Two or three times.

Then add: let your head float gently upward with the inhale — like the breath is lifting you. Let it settle back on the exhale.

Pause. Notice what's different, even just slightly. ✨

That's your nervous system learning that movement is available. That expansion is possible. That the body doesn't have to stay braced.

This is exactly the work we do in Elusive Safety — a drop-in somatic class that centers q***r bodies, q***r experience, and q***r culture.

Not as a footnote. As the whole point.

Next class: Wednesday, June 24th at 1:00pm.

Technically I'm a vocal coach.

(I'm also, depending on the day, a somatic wizard, a nervous system whisperer, and someone who will hold space for you so steadily that you accidentally tell yourself the truth.)

But here's what's actually under the hood:
I'm a Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner. Four years of training — the kind of immersive, rigorous, get-into-the-bones-of-how-humans-actually-move training that doesn't fit neatly into a tagline. And I've spent 20 years working with nervous systems that span a range most people don't expect — professional athletes, people with Parkinson's, babies with cerebral palsy, and everyone in between.

What that taught me is that the nervous system is not a problem to be solved. It's a system that learned. Brilliantly, specifically, in response to exactly what it was given.
And it can learn something new.

So when you're in a session with me and something shifts — when the breath drops, the throat opens, the voice comes out different than it has in years — that's not magic.

It's twenty years of knowing exactly where to meet you.
(Okay. Maybe a little magic.)

Your voice is the revolution. 🖤

Swipe if you've ever been told to "just relax" — as if your nervous system were a light switch someone forgot to flip.

(It is not a light switch. I promise you it is not a light switch.)

What it is: responsive, intelligent, and genuinely capable of change. Given the right conditions.

That's what we build. 🖤

There's a kind of tired that sleep doesn't touch.

Not burnout exactly — though maybe that too. More like the exhaustion of being fluent in everyone else's needs while running on fumes when it comes to your own.

Of editing yourself in real time before you've even finished the sentence.

Of being the person everyone trusts — wise, capable, steady — and privately having almost no idea what you actually feel right now.

Here's what I know after two decades of working with nervous systems: that's not a character flaw. That's not even a habit, really. It's a deeply intelligent adaptation to environments that rewarded you for being useful and legible and non-threatening.
Your body learned that. Precisely. On purpose.

And — this is the part people don't expect — it can learn something else. Not by overriding what it knows. By finally having enough safety to let it move.

That's the whole game. Everything else is just the how.

Your voice is the revolution. 🖤

We are carrying a lot right now.

Not metaphorically. In our bodies. In our nervous systems. In the way we brace before we open the news, the way we hold our breath in certain rooms, the way exhaustion has started to feel like a baseline instead of a signal.

Q***r joy is not the reward we get when the fight is over. It is the fuel that keeps us in it.

That's why Elusive Safety exists.

It's a monthly drop-in somatic class centered in q***r culture and experience — for the whole alphabet mafia, and for allies who are ready to show up with genuine solidarity and humility. Each class is 45 minutes of gentle, awareness-based movement rooted in the Feldenkrais Method, followed by 15 minutes of community connection time. No performance required. Nothing to get right.
Just your body. Your people. An hour to put it down.

First class: Wednesday, June 24th at 1pm EST / 10am PT.
Sliding scale $20 / $35 / $55 same full experience at every tier.

One of my participants wrote this in her final reflection after four weeks together:

"Ease as a nonnegotiable foundation — versus something I work hard to maintain."

I've been sitting with that sentence for weeks.

Because that's exactly it, isn't it?

So many of us have learned to experience ease as something we earn. A reward for effort, a brief exhale between demands. Something to be managed and protected, not something we simply inhabit.

But ease isn't a reward.

It's a capacity.

And capacity — real, lasting, nervous-system-level capacity — is something your body can actually learn. Not through pushing harder. Not through yet another mindset reframe.

Through the body. Through awareness. Through the kind of practice that reorganizes your system from the inside out.

This is what I've spent 20 years refining and teaching.

And it keeps changing lives in ways that genuinely humble me.

If you're curious what this feels like in your own body, Elusive Safety LGBTQIA+ centered drop-in classes are a gentle, low-commitment place to start. Link in bio.

A small awareness practice for your day.

Most of us have learned to manage our expression so automatically we've stopped noticing we're doing it.

The tightening before you speak. The edited breath. The words that soften themselves before they even arrive.

This isn't a flaw. It's a learned pattern. And learned patterns — especially physical ones — can change.

It starts with noticing.

What do you observe in yourself? I'd genuinely love to hear. ↓

And q***r joy is not the reward we get when the fight is over. It is the fuel that keeps us in it.

We gather on the fourth Wednesday of every month via Zoom.

Twenty years ago I was technically excellent and quietly constrained.

I could teach, perform, and lead. But there was a steady hum underneath all of it:
There's more in me than I'm letting through.

It took me years to understand that the constraint wasn't only in my mindset.

It was in my body.

The way I held my ribcage.

The way I managed my breath before speaking.

The micro-bracing that happened so automatically I'd stopped noticing it.

When I finally started working with those patterns — not against them, but with them — everything shifted. Not just vocally. Emotionally. Relationally. In how I moved through the world.

That's why I do this work the way I do.

Not to add more technique on top of an already capable person.

But to help you access what's already there — the part of you that's been waiting for permission to come through fully.

This is self-restoration. Not self-improvement.

I've lived both sides of it. And I know what becomes possible when your body stops working against you and starts working with you.

Your emotional patterns don't just live in your mind.

They live in the way your jaw tightens before a hard conversation.

In the breath you hold when someone asks too much of you.

In the shoulders that round forward when you shrink.

These aren't just stress responses.

They're habits. Deeply grooved, well-practiced, often decades old.

And here's what most people miss:

Because they're physical habits, they can be worked with physically.

Not through force. Not through willpower. Through awareness. Through curiosity. Through the kind of gentle, precise attention that lets your nervous system discover — on its own terms — that something else is possible.

This is the foundation of everything I do.

Your body already holds the wisdom. My job is to help you access it.

I'm Sharon — somatic voice and embodiment practitioner with 25 years in vocal pedagogy and 20 years as a Guild Certified Feldenkrais® Practitioner. This is the work.
