Composure is not the same thing as regulation.

One is a performance. The other is a nervous system that actually feels safe.

Most of us were only ever taught the first one.

Share this with someone who's really good at holding it together.

What "prepping for a Feldenkrais class" actually looks like on my end: lying on my own floor, testing the movement sequence on my own nervous system first, feeling for the exact spot where it stops being interesting and starts being effortful.

If it doesn't land in my own body, it doesn't go in the class. That's the whole quality-control process. High-tech operation over here.

Curious what a session actually feels like? Drop a 🀍 and I'll do a walkthrough post.

You're capable. Engaged. Paying attention. You care about how you show up and the impact you have.

And still β€” there are moments you feel yourself overriding what you know. Pushing through. Staying composed. Continuing on when something in you is asking for a different pace.

These seemingly innocent moments of overriding are micro-moments of self-abandonment.

There's a real invitation to hedge, to not rock the boat, to maintain the status quo. But my love, nothing changes if nothing changes. And real change is possible. Authentic connection and belonging that doesn't ask you to be less is possible. And it starts with you. You giving yourself the time and attention to listen deeply to your inner knowing. You have everything in you already to break the pattern and come into alignment with your authenticity. Even though it feels elusive at times.

Elusive Authenticity is a live group series, four Thursdays on Zoom, gentle Feldenkrais-based movement β€” no prior experience, most of it done lying down or seated. We're learning to notice where effort increases, where sensation goes quiet, where choice narrows before you even register it's happening. From there: more room to respond instead of react.

Saying no without bracing. Slowing down without guilt. Boundaries that feel steadier. Expression that's honest without needing to be loud.

Starts Thursday, September 24. Enrollment closes September 21.

Twenty years of Feldenkrais somatic work will teach you an interesting thing: the body doesn't lie, but it will absolutely lie for you, if that's what keeps you safe.

Override the exhale that wants to happen. Hold the jaw a little tighter than it needs. Keep the shoulders exactly where they'll read as "fine." Your nervous system will do it β€” flawlessly, invisibly, for years β€” because somewhere back there, it worked.

I didn't come to this work to teach people to relax. I came to it because I got tired of watching brilliant, capable people mistake their own bracing for personality.

Somatic wizard, reporting for duty. 🫑

Save this for the next time you catch yourself doing it. 😘

We don't feel safe all the time. We're not meant to. We're meant to return to safety β€” have it be a baseline.

A healthy nervous system isn't calm constantly. It responds to threat, to change, and then comes back to safety quickly.

If we were never challenged, we'd never grow. Challenge is the thing that spurs the nervous system to get creative β€” that spurs us to find new solutions. It's the mechanism through which we know something needs to change. If we're not uncomfortable, nothing changes.

So it's a balance: learning how to manage discomfort, learning how to feel safe with a certain amount of discomfort β€” that's what supports your growth and your evolution.

That's the gig.

Unpopular opinion: confidence is not the goal.

I work with women and q***r folx who know they're meant for more β€” and most of them didn't come to me because they lacked confidence. They came because they'd gotten so good at performing confidence that they'd lost track of what was actually true underneath it.

Performance culture will teach you to sound sure. It will not teach you to feel safe. Those are two different nervous system states, and only one of them is sustainable.

The real work is learning your body well enough that you stop needing a performance to feel safe in it. That's what we build in Elusive Authenticity, session by session β€” not more polish, more truth.

What that actually means, five minutes into a session: someone's here to work on their voice, and they haven't lived in their body in years. They know intellectually that it exists. That's about it.

So we don't start with the voice. We start lower β€” feet on the floor, breath moving without being managed, one small movement that seems like it has nothing to do with singing or speaking at all.

Then something shifts. A jaw unclenches. A shoulder drops an inch. Suddenly there's more air, more range, more them in the sound.

Nobody puts this part in the brochure. It's also the part that actually works.

Your nervous system doesn't care how polished you sound. It cares how much safety you can feel β€” how much you can actually be in your body when you say the thing.

That's the difference between a message that resonates and one that falls flat. It's the difference between a speaker you trust the moment they open their mouth, the moment they walk into a room β€” and leaving that room knowing you'd never buy from them, because you can't trust a single word they said. Their body was so dysregulated, you could see it.

Landing in your body. Getting out of your head. That's the thing that's going to help you break through into your next level β€” because fully expressed, in your body, in your voice, in your mind... fully expressed is the power source for everything you desire next.

Fully expressed doesn't mean loud. It doesn't mean polished, either. It means nothing in you is on standby β€” no part held back, managed, or waiting for permission to show up. That's it. That's the whole shift.

Everything downstream gets easier from there.
