Have you ever had an intraoral massage?
If you’ve never seen it done before, this is what it can look like during a session.
Intraoral massage is a specialized technique where, using proper hygiene and gloves, I work with muscles and tissues of the jaw and face from both the outside and inside of the mouth.
Why would someone want this?
It can be a beautiful addition to a massage if you tend to experience:
• Jaw tension or tightness
• Clenching or grinding
• TMJ-related discomfort
• Tightness through the cheeks, jaw, face or neck
• Headaches that may be associated with muscular tension
• A feeling of constantly holding tension in your face
• High stress or difficulty relaxing the jaw
Working intraorally allows us to access areas and deeper jaw muscles that aren’t as easily reached from the outside.
If you’ve been curious about intraoral massage but weren’t quite sure what it actually involved, I hope this gives you a better idea of what to expect during a session.
I promise I don’t hang out in there long, but it does help a lot! This can be included in a therapeutic session or a TMJ session.
