Domestic violence can include many different behaviors that abusers use to control their partners, and some might be harder to recognize than others.

Being aware of these and other "red flags" helps us all build stronger communities:

🚩 They can help victims and survivors find language and support for what they're experiencing.

🚩 They can help concerned friends and loved ones start a conversation with someone they're worried about.

🚩 They can even help us all see and call out harmful messages in the media, in the headlines, and in pop culture.

Respect begins before the touch, the hug, or even the approach.

Please consider asking first before touching, hugging, or entering someone's personal space. Not everyone wants to be touched, and that boundary should never be taken personally.

For some survivors, unexpected touch can trigger fear or a trauma response—including freezing or becoming speechless.

And this should go without saying: Never touch someone inappropriately. Ever. No joke, intention, relationship, or situation makes inappropriate touching acceptable.

If someone says “No,” “Stop,” or “Don't touch me,” stop and respect their boundary. We never fully know another person's history, story, or what they have survived. Ask first. Respect the answer. Respect boundaries. Be considerate. www.crimesurvivors.org

As we get ready to head back to school, we’d like to remind families that it’s important to make sure you’re not giving away too much of your student's personal information on social media.
Personal details such as which classroom your kids will be in, their grade level, age, school, location, and their teacher's name are all particulars you may want to omit so predators and scammers can’t access that information.
You may also want to check your privacy settings to ensure your posts and photos can only be viewed by people you know in real life and trust. These simple steps can go a long way to protecting your student's privacy online!
