π¨ TICK SEASON IS HERE IN SOUTHERN INDIANA π¨
Friends, we need to talk about ticks. They are out in full force this year, and the rise of Alpha-Gal Syndrome and Lyme disease in our area is not something to brush off.
Lyme disease (carried mainly by the black-legged/deer tick) is now established in nearly every county in Indiana. And Alpha-Gal Syndrome β a serious, sometimes life-threatening allergy to red meat triggered by the bite of the Lone Star tick β has exploded across the Midwest. Tick-related ER visits have been climbing fast this spring, and the Lone Star tick (the one with the little white dot on her back) is now well-established right here in Southern Indiana.
π IF YOU FIND A TICK ATTACHED TO YOUR SKIN β PLEASE READ THIS:
β
Remove it carefully with fine tweezers, pulling straight up and out β no twisting, no squeezing the body, no matches, no nail polish, no Vaseline. Those tricks make the tick vomit pathogens INTO you.
β
DO NOT flush the tick down the toilet. SAVE IT. Put it in a small ziplock bag or pill bottle with a damp paper towel, label it with the date and where on your body it was attached, and stick it in the freezer. If symptoms develop later, that tick can be sent to a lab (Tick Report at UMass Amherst and IGeneX are two reputable options) to find out exactly what pathogens it was carrying. That information can be a game-changer for your doctor.
β
Take a photo of the bite site, and keep watching it for several weeks. Less than half of people who get Lyme ever see the classic bullseye rash, so don't wait for one to take symptoms seriously.
πΏ HERE'S WHAT I KEEP ON HAND AND USE THE MOMENT I FIND A TICK BITE:
π€ Earthley Black Drawing Salve β a true drawing herb blend that helps pull toxins, venom, and infection up and out of the skin. I apply it directly to the bite site immediately and reapply often β every couple of hours the first day, then several times a day until things calm down. You can even cover it with a bandage to keep it working.
π Super Soothe Remedy for Skin β another beautiful drawing remedy (with lobelia and apple cider vinegar) that works wonderfully alongside the salve. I rotate them on the bite site. Great for bug bites, rashes, and stings of all kinds.
π± Nature's Sunshine BP-X β this is a traditional herbal blood purifier. When something gets INTO the bloodstream β pathogens from a tick, poison ivy, spider venom, etc. β BP-X helps the body clear it out. I start taking it right away after a bite and continue for a couple of weeks. It's a staple in my home medicine cabinet.
π§ HOMEOPATHIC SUPPORT β Professional Formulas Nosode Drops:
These are wonderful gentle tools to keep on hand, especially if you spend any time outdoors here in Southern Indiana.
β’ Tick Pathogen Nosode β I reach for this one PROACTIVELY any time there's been tick exposure, even if I'm not 100% sure I was bitten. It's a broad-spectrum homeopathic energetic blend that supports the body against the various pathogens ticks can carry (not just Lyme β also things like Anaplasmosis, Ehrlichiosis, Babesiosis, and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever).
β’ Lyme Nosode Drops β I use this one specifically when I know or strongly suspect a black-legged tick bite, or if any Lyme-type symptoms (fatigue, joint aches, flu-like feelings, brain fog, rash) start showing up after a bite. It can also be used as a longer-term support remedy alongside other Lyme protocols.
Typical adult use for both is generally 10β15 drops under the tongue, 2β3 times a day, away from food, coffee, and strong mint flavors (which can interfere with homeopathics). Start at the first sign of exposure and continue for several weeks. As always, work with a knowledgeable practitioner for anything ongoing or serious β these tools support the body, but they don't replace proper diagnosis and care, especially with Lyme.
π³ A few last reminders:
β’ Do tick checks EVERY time you come in from outside β under the arms, behind the knees, scalp, waistband, behind the ears. Nymph ticks are the size of a poppy seed.
β’ Throw clothes in the dryer on HIGH for 10β15 minutes to kill any hitchhikers.
β’ Check your pets β they bring ticks right into your bed.
β’ Symptoms of tick-borne illness can show up days, weeks, or even MONTHS later. Stay vigilant.
If you have questions about any of these products or want to know what I keep in my own tick kit, message me anytime. Let's take care of each other out there. π
