Did you know Appalachian Mountain Project Access serves 11 counties across Southwest Virginia?

As we prepare to celebrate our 20th year of serving the region, we decided there was no better way to honor this milestone than by taking a summer road trip through every county in our service area. Along the way, we’ll be highlighting the communities we serve, sharing impact stories, and celebrating the partnerships that make this work possible.

We kicked off our journey at the Tennessee/Virginia state line in downtown Bristol before making our way into Washington County, VA, with a quick stop at Blackbird Bakery for some road trip snacks along the way.

Today, there are 24 patients enrolled in our program in Washington County and Bristol City alone. Behind every number is a person, a family, and a story. Over the past 20 years, we’ve been honored to help connect individuals in our region to the medical care they need.

We’re excited to spend this summer exploring the communities that have supported our mission for two decades. Stay tuned as we continue our journey across Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee.

Today is Heat Awareness Day. Extreme heat can affect anyone, but it’s especially dangerous for older adults, young children, people with chronic health conditions, and those who spend long periods outdoors. When the body gets too hot and can’t cool itself down, it can lead to serious illnesses like heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

Please remember to take breaks out of the sun, drink water regularly, and avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day.

On Nothing to Fear Day, we want our community to know this: Project Access is here. You're not alone. Getting medical care can feel overwhelming, especially when you don't know where to start or how you'll afford it. We help connect individuals and families to the care that they need, so fear isn't what stands between you and your health. If you or someone you know needs support, we're here to help you take that next step.

Some memories fade. But connection, care, and compassion still matter.

During Dementia Awareness Week, we’re taking time to recognize the individuals and families in our community navigating dementia every day. It can be overwhelming. It can be emotional. And for many, it can feel isolating. But no one should have to face it alone.

At Appalachian Mountain Project Access, we see how access to care can make a real difference for patients and families who need support. Awareness is one step. Compassion is another. And together, they help create a stronger, more understanding community.

Take a moment this week to learn more, check in on someone, or simply listen. Because even when memory changes, dignity and care should never be out of reach.

Today our team is celebrating Bring Flowers to Someone Day by sharing a little extra kindness with one another. 💐 We’re bringing flowers for each other as a reminder that small gestures can make a big impact, just like the work we do every day for our community.

Grateful for a team that shows up with compassion, support, and a whole lot of heart. 💛

Today we celebrate International Nurses Day by recognizing four members of our AMPA team who show up every day with compassion, patience, and care. Nursing is more than a profession. It’s long hours, hard conversations, and quiet moments of comfort when people need it most.

Gayle, Candy, Jamie, and Silvia deserve to be recognized not just today, but every day, for the way they continue to care for patients across our region. We are grateful for their dedication, their kindness, and the steady presence they bring to the work we do.

We wrapped up the week in a simple but meaningful way, sharing a Coca-Cola together as a staff for "Have a Coke” Day.

After a busy week of rest 😉, it was a nice moment to slow down, laugh together, and reconnect as a team.
Sometimes it’s the small things, like sharing a drink and a conversation, that help us reset and remind us of the people behind the work we do.
