Soul Child Awakenings Combining the healing arts with African & Latin indigenous practices to support holistic wellness. Alaffia -

Welcome to Soul Child Awakenings! Asé!

My name is Nicolette Paige, and I am the owner, founder, and Priestess of this holistic wellness practice. At Soul Child Awakenings, we believe in empowering individuals on their spiritual, physical, mental, and emotional journeys. Through the integration of indigenous spiritual practices, we aim to guide our clients towards finding healing, peace, and purpose in their lives. My own path towards S

oul Child Awakenings started back in 2008 when I began offering tarot readings professionally and delved into the study of African Spiritual Sciences. Since I was a child, I have possessed a spiritual gift for healing and communicating with the spirit realm. It is through these gifts that I humbly assist others in discovering their own personal power and finding the path to healing, transformation, and purpose. In my work, I frequently incorporate core spiritual practices such as Curanderismo, Hoodoo, Brujeria, Vodou, Rastafari, and the religious practices of Ifa. In 2020, I was initiated into the Ifa religion, which has its roots in Vodou, Lucumi, and Candomble. During my initiation, I was given the spiritual name "Larada Dìdan Ìmolęìna Aye Afrika," which translates to "She Whose Healing Shines Light On The World." While my journey is influenced by the wisdom of these indigenous spiritual practices, it is ultimately guided by the love and light within my soul and the wisdom of my ancestors. The name "Soul Child Awakenings" holds deep significance for me. From my teenage years, I have always understood myself as a soul experiencing this human existence. I believe that we all have the capacity to tap into infinite knowledge and wisdom, ensuring that our journey of learning and growth is everlasting. I have always felt a connection to a higher power, seeing my soul as an extension or child of this divine energy. To honor this understanding, I began referring to myself as "Soul Child" and even got a tattoo of the name on my neck. The term "Awakenings" represents the profound moments of realization and transformation that we can experience in our lives. One of the most crucial awakenings, in my belief, is that of our inner child, or what I like to refer to as, our inner soul child. By awakening this aspect of ourselves, we can heal past wounds, learn from our experiences, rediscover the simple joys of life often forgotten in adulthood, and ultimately live with purpose. In 2024, Soul Child Awakenings became a collective of practitioners of diverse skills that share the same purpose of uplifting individuals through ancestral healing, holistic wellness, and indigenous wisdoms. That same year, the Soul Child Awakenings Temple Of Imole opened in Kansas City, providing holistic wellness services to the community and a botanica where people can shop goods for the body & soul created by Soul Child Awakenings practitioners. I invite you to join us at Soul Child Awakenings and embark on a transformative journey of self-discovery, healing, and empowerment. Together, we can tap into your inner power, connect with ancestral wisdom, and uncover the path that leads to true happiness and fulfillment. Thank you for visiting Soul Child Awakenings. Feel free to email me at [email protected] for questions or to inquire about services. May we forever be guided by the wisdom of our ancestors, and may we always remember that the most powerful magic one can tap into is their own. With much peace, love, and gratitude…

It was the perfect night to light candles on my front porch altar. 🥰✨️

You'll often find me lighting fresh candles around the new moon and full moon in honor of the sacred energies present during these times. Of course, sacred energies are always present, but these lunar phases I deeply resonate with. They invite me to slow down, reflect, pray, and reconnect with my intentions.

This evening gifted us a beautiful storm. In the Ifá tradition, storms are often associated with the Orishas Shango and Oya. Shango is connected to thunder, lightning, courage, and divine power, while Oya is associated with the winds of change, transformation, and the storms that clear away what no longer serves us. Together, their energies remind us that growth often requires movement, change, and sometimes a little shaking up of the old to make room for the new.

Adding to the significance of tonight is the approaching Super New Moon in Gemini. New moons are traditionally seen as a time of fresh beginnings, intention setting, and planting seeds for what we hope to cultivate in our lives. Gemini, represented by the twins, invites us to explore duality, communication, embrace curiosity, be open to learning, and the many facets of ourselves that are constantly evolving.

A Super New Moon occurs when the moon is at its closest point to Earth during its lunar cycle, symbolically amplifying the new moon's energy. Many people view this as an especially potent time for deep reflection, setting clear intentions, and aligning ourselves with the future we wish to create.

As I sat on my porch watching the storm roll through, surrounded by candlelight, plants, bones, shells, and the sounds of nature, I felt immense gratitude! Gratitude for the lessons of the past, gratitude for the winds of transformation, and gratitude for the opportunity to continue growing.

Blessings flow ✨️

We've been having so much fun during our Soul Sessions at Margaret's Place Adult Recreation and Wellness Center!

Recently, I brought in my ball python, Malihuē, and everyone always loves it when he comes to visit. He's such a gentle and kind creature, and his presence sparks wonderful conversations. During our session, we explored Indigenous perspectives on snakes and discussed what they represent in different cultures around the world.

My sister, Luna Jenna, has also been joining me lately and helping create soulful experiences through rhythm, movement, and dance. Participants have been having a great time engaging in these activities, and she has also been sharing Indigenous stories and teachings from various cultures, which always lead to thoughtful discussions and moments of connection.

And of course, we've continued enjoying our bougie tea times together—one of our favorite traditions!

It's always a great time at Margaret's Place. It truly feels like a village here, and I am so grateful for my Margaret's Place family. Being able to provide holistic wellness services to our elder and disabled community is truly an honor!

Death doula care does not stop after an individual has transitioned. Oftentimes, the focus shifts to providing comfort, support, and care to the family. The body is blessed, the spirit is honored, and bedside rituals may begin that help support and honor the grieving process.

As an Indigenous Holistic Wellness and Healing Arts Practitioner, I often integrate Indigenous healing practices into my death doula care. Depending on the needs and beliefs of the individual and their loved ones, this may include prayer, sacred music, ancestral connection practices, sporitual foot washes, limpias, and the creation of medicine bags for both the individual who is transitioning and their family members.

Medicine bags are sacred bundles that may contain herbs, stones, prayers, symbols, and other spiritually significant items. While each medicine bag is unique, they are often created with the intention of providing strength, peace, comfort, connection, protection, courage, or support during life's most sacred transitions.
Their medicine can be felt in the mind, body, heart, and soul.

The photo below captures a sacred moment in time as I played the comforting sounds of a Native flute while the family of my client grieved his passing.

If you have a loved one who is transitioning and would like to integrate death doula care into their journey, I invite you to reach out by visiting www.SoulChildAwakenings.com. I work with individuals of all ages and walks of life. Sliding-scale services are available, and I also welcome trades and bartering arrangements.

This week, I had the honor of supporting social workers, therapists, grandmothers, teenagers, community leaders, healers, individuals living in the houseless community, and others from different walks of life.

Every week, I am reminded that healing does not belong to one profession, one culture, or one path. It belongs to all of us!

Recently, I spoke with a social justice advocate and Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) based in California whose work deeply inspires me. During our conversation, she said something that really had me thinking: there is a difference between therapy and healing.

I appreciate that perspective!

Therapy can help us discover and better understand the roots of our pain, develop tools for navigating life's challenges, and make sense of our experiences. Healing, on the other hand, is often the process of releasing those burdens, restoring balance, and reconnecting with the parts of ourselves that may have been forgotten along the way. While the two are different, they also beautifully complement one another.

Not everyone who comes to me is seeking "healing" in the traditional sense. Sometimes people are seeking clarity. Sometimes they are seeking release. Sometimes they are looking for a way to let go of what no longer serves them. Sometimes they are simply searching for a deeper connection with themselves, their ancestors, their community, or the natural world. And sometimes they are looking for support in becoming new again.

One of the greatest honors of this work is being entrusted with people's stories. I witness stories of resilience, grief, joy, transformation, heartbreak, hope, and survival. Some of these stories are incredibly heavy. Yet I am grateful to provide a space where those sacred truths can be spoken and honored.

I also love witnessing people show up for their healing through Indigenous traditions. For a long time, many healing practices rooted in Africa, Mesoamerica, and the Indigenous peoples of this land were misunderstood, marginalized, and demonized. It is beautiful to see these sacred traditions—which survived generations of colonization, displacement, and cultural suppression—being honored as the sacred traditions they have always been, and seeing people reconnect with them with respect and reverence.

As Indigenous healing practices continue to be embraced and remembered, I am grateful to share these sacred traditions that view wellness through a holistic lens—honoring the mind, body, spirit, community, ancestors, and our relationship with the natural world. These teachings remind us that healing is not simply about fixing what is broken. It is about restoring balance, strengthening connection within ourselves, our Creator, our ancestors, and the world around us, and remembering who we are. 🖤
