At Wondrous Roots, we believe there is no substitute for listening carefully to each person when attempting to understand his or her unique picture of health. Mainstream healthcare focuses on laboratory data and isolated health issues rather than spending the time necessary to understand each person as a whole. You can receive a comprehensive health consultation with Rebecca either locally on-site or by phone or videoconference, depending on your preference. Whether you are dealing with serious illness or simply looking for a "tune-up," Rebecca welcomes the opportunity as a holistic health practitioner to help you achieve your health-related goals.

Have you ever noticed someone with a yellow-orange tint around the mouth, palms, or soles and wondered what was causing it?

In this week's webinar, I share a fascinating case study involving a young woman whose unusual skin discoloration turned out to be much more than a cosmetic curiosity. What initially seemed insignificant became a clue that helped connect thyroid function, vitamin A metabolism, iron status, and blood sugar regulation into a single coherent picture.

We'll explore the condition known as carotenemia, why it is often mistaken for other problems, and how the body sometimes leaves visible clues that can point us toward the root cause of deeper health concerns.

Sometimes the most valuable clues are hiding in plain sight—and sometimes they arrive disguised as a carrot. 🥕

Itching, burning, tingling, numbness, sciatica, neuropathy… what happens when sensation begins to shift? In Part 2 of my “Feeling It: The Science of Touch, Nerves & Sensation” series, we explore what altered sensation may reveal about deeper issues involving nerves, circulation, inflammation, metabolism, and immune balance—along with practical strategies to help support restoration and resilience. When sensation changes, the body may be saying more than most people realize.

What happens when normal sensation begins to change? In Part 2 of this in-depth Wondrous Roots presentation, Rebecca Montrone explores what numbness, tingling...

How does your body detect a feather-light touch… or instantly react to something dangerously hot?

In this first session on The Sense of Touch, we explore the remarkable science behind skin, sensory receptors, peripheral nerves, spinal cord pathways, and brain interpretation—revealing how touch is far more than skin deep.

From fingertips and facial sensitivity to the sensory homunculus and lightning-fast protective reflexes, this presentation uncovers the extraordinary design behind one of our most constant and overlooked sensory systems.

Touch is not passive—it is a sophisticated communication network that protects, informs, and connects us to the world every moment of every day.

In today’s session, I explored what it means when things go wrong with the tongue—whether that shows up as changes in taste, discomfort, dryness, or visible differences in appearance.

These patterns are often not random. They can reflect shifts in nutrient status, nerve function, oral balance, or overall health—and in many cases, they’re early signals worth paying attention to.

This is part of my ongoing Wondrous Five Senses Series, where we’re taking a closer look at each of the senses—what they do, what can go wrong, and how to support them naturally.

One more sense to go—TOUCH—to complete the series.

Ringing. Whooshing. Spinning. Sudden imbalance.

In The Ears – Part 3: When Sound & Balance Misfire (Part 1 of 2), we move beyond hearing loss into the complex world of tinnitus and early vestibular dysfunction.

We explore the major types of tinnitus, why sound can become painful, how displaced inner ear “crystals” cause BPPV, and how Ménière’s disease progresses over time. Most importantly, we examine why these symptoms are often so distressing — and why the brain is deeply involved.

Part 2 will continue with vestibular neuritis, chronic imbalance, ear infections, and the shared inflammatory and vascular mechanisms that affect both sound and balance.

In The Ears – Part 1: Structure, Anatomy & Function, we take a fascinating look at how the ears are designed and how hearing and balance truly work. From the outer ear to the brain, this session explores how sound travels, how simple mechanical structures like the hammer, anvil, and stirrup make hearing possible, and why the brain is where hearing actually occurs. We also touch on the ear’s intricate nerve connections and how the vestibular system influences balance, orientation, and even our emotional sense of safety. A foundational talk for anyone curious about the remarkable way we are put together.

We often think of eye health as something separate—but the eyes reflect the health of the entire system. In this final session of The Eyes: Much More Than Vision, I walk through the underlying mechanisms that influence vision and the practical steps we can take to support eye health naturally. Understanding why the eyes change gives us powerful tools to protect vision for life.

In this third and final session of The Eyes: Much More Than Vision, we move beyond anatomy and diagnoses into the most empowering part of eye health: what we...

Glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, floaters — these eye conditions are common, but that doesn’t mean they should be ignored. In this webinar replay, I explain what these conditions are, why they develop, and how to tell what’s part of aging versus what needs attention. Next week, we’ll dive into the most empowering part: nutrients and lifestyle strategies that support eye health and help protect vision.

Many eye conditions are described as common — but that does not mean they should be ignored. In this webinar, we take a clear, grounded look at several common...
