The Reality: According to the American Heart Association (AHA), normal blood pressure for all adults (18+) is less than 120/80 mm Hg, regardless of age.
Why the chart exists: It is true that blood pressure naturally tends to rise as we age because our arteries naturally lose their elasticity and stiffen. However, medical guidelines do not consider these elevated numbers "normal" or healthy for older adults, because allowing blood pressure to stay that high significantly increases the risk of stroke, heart attack, and kidney damage.
