Grapefruit and grapefruit juice can interfere with how your body processes certain medications by affecting enzymes in the gut, especially CYP3A4. This can lead to medications becoming too strong (causing side effects or toxicity) or too weak (reducing effectiveness). Always check with your healthcare provider or pharmacist before consuming grapefruit products while taking any medication.

Who’s Most at Risk?
Anyone taking antidepressants can be sensitive to heat, but you're more at risk if you:
🔴Are over 65 (it gets harder for your body to handle heat as you age)
🔴Have a chronic condition like heart disease or diabetes
🔴Take more than one medication that affects how your body handles heat
🔴Live somewhere hot or humid
🔴Spend a lot of time outside for work or fun
☀️
Tips for Handling Heat Sensitivity
The good news? You don’t have to pick between taking care of your mental health and staying cool. These tips can help you feel better in the heat:
🔴Drink water often—even if you’re not thirsty
🔴Stay out of the sun when you can (especially between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.)
🔴Wear loose, light-colored clothes that let your skin breathe
🔴Take breaks if you’re outside or being active
🔴Use fans, cooling towels, or take cool showers to help cool down
🌊
One more thing: Don’t stop your medication without talking to your doctor first. If the heat is making you feel sick, it might be time to adjust your meds, with your provider’s help!

The 4th of July is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate summer with family and friends. However, as with any outdoor holiday, individuals with allergies and asthma should take extra precautions to ensure a safe and symptom-free celebration. Those with asthma should be especially careful at events involving smoke, as exposure to fireworks, bonfires, or campfires can trigger asthma flare-ups!
🎆
1. Individuals with a history of allergic reactions to stings should carry two doses of an epinephrine auto-injector at all times. It is advisable to wear shoes in grassy areas and keep food and beverages covered to reduce the risk of attracting insects.

2. Sudden transitions between hot outdoor environments and cooler spaces, such as pools or air-conditioned rooms, can provoke asthma symptoms. On days with high heat, humidity, or ozone levels, consider exercising indoors to avoid excessive exposure.

3. A bite from the Lone Star tick may cause an allergy to red meats such as beef, lamb, or pork. Consultation with an allergist is recommended if this is suspected.

4. Grass and pollen allergens remain prevalent during summer months, so it is important to take allergy medications in advance of outdoor gatherings. Individuals with asthma should adhere to prescribed treatment plans and medication regimens.

5. Those with hay fever may experience itching or tingling of the mouth after consuming certain raw fruits or vegetables. These symptoms typically resolve once the food is swallowed or removed.

is a condition where the spine curves abnormally from side to side. While the spine normally has gentle curves that bend forward and backward, scoliosis causes it to form a C- or S-shaped curve. Most cases are mild, cause no symptoms, and don’t require treatment. However, severe scoliosis can lead to uneven posture and pain. Treatment options may include wearing a brace or undergoing surgery.
