I sent a message to the company imploring them to consider their messaging about ladies disappearing. Ladies…please share and post on how you take up SPACE. 💪🏼💃🏻Always question companies that suggest you shrink and make yourself disappear.

Have you ever experienced a big relief after venting about something, only later to feel stuck or even more frustrated? The research backs that up. Venting, despite an initial cathartic release, tends to prolong your emotion and typically prevents an understanding of your problem or taking steps to solve it.

Research shows that when we share our experiences with others and ask for support, we do build trust and hopefully get some really good feedback. However, if you are simply retelling the experience, let’s say for when you were angry, you are building the neural pathways for anger.

Same goes in therapy sessions. A simple retelling of a story can feel incredibly satisfying however, after the initial release, it prolongs the problem and clients are often left frustrated in between sessions. What is needed is an understanding how your interpretations of the experience and specific steps to interrupt the pattern.

Always find a therapist that will help make your understanding in sessions tangible to your outside world….we call it generalization and that is where I see the biggest shifts in my clients.

What do you think the percentage split is between your thinking and doing?

Many people with anxiety spend far too much time thinking, planning, and worrying about an activity than actually doing it. Confidence isn’t being built through endless prep.

Anxiety often convinces us that more thinking will make us feel ready. In reality, confidence grows when we take action.

Confidence is typically built by moving through an experience, especially when you are nervous.

We have somehow been conditioned to think that our emotions are meant to be suppressed, however, they occur to give us information on our safety, priorities, love and limits. Emotions regulate when they are understood, not judged or suppressed.

People Pleaser” as a label implies accommodating, attentive, giving…still all positive terms. People pleasing also includes attempts to scan others’ needs and keep them comfortable, all to avoid discomfort for the “pleaser.” Emotional skills to help you tolerate your worry about the other person’s experience includes making sure your limit is authentic and based on your values, waiting, breathing and interrupting thoughts about “doing something wrong.”
