One way I like to return to the present moment whether I’m walking or sitting and preparing for a client, is to use my five senses and integrate my awareness to my surroundings.
When I noticed I was feeling dysregulated today, I took some time to walk, connect with nature, and grab lunch. Bringing my awareness to what I could see, hear, feel, smell, and taste helped me return to the here and now.

Being in a beautiful spot of downtown Jacksonville, NC, and having the accessibility to walk and feel grounded is such a blessing. 🤍

I’ll be sharing my schedule for this and next month since scheduling is becoming limited and classes will have a break in early July, so keep an eye out!

Many people don’t realize how much tension they hold in the jaw until the body begins to soften.

If you’re noticing pain in the jaw or teeth from stress or disrupted sleep, we can add inter-oral massage to your session for intentional results.

Take a mindful moment and bring awareness to Yintang and Chengjiang with me.

Bringing awareness to both points can assist with reducing stress, bringing calm to the nervous system, along with other benefits!

If you would like to take multiple rounds of awareness, set your intention and take a quick check-in of how you feel before and after your mindful moment.

We may label ourselves incorrectly because we don’t fully understand what our nervous system is trying to tell us. Having the ability to move forward, but feeling unable to, doesn’t have to feel shameful.

Recognizing when you need to return to yourself is where you can begin mapping your nervous system and learning to work with it instead of against it.

When you become overwhelmed, do you still feel the urge to run or like you’re going to explode?

Learning to recognize a sympathetic response and the different ways it shows up in the mind and body can help you begin creating a plan before things feel unmanageable.

Taking breaks can be hard, especially when your nervous system is used to pushing through, but working until you hit overload isn’t supporting you in the long run.

Follow along for more nervous system education and trauma-informed massage and yoga content focused on creating safer wellness spaces.

Let’s breakdown what each response looks like so we can recognize when we need to work towards a felt sense of safety.

Join me for the next part where we dive into each individually and begin scanning to build that awareness.

Taking a moment to check in with the body and build a practice of acknowledgment is the first step to expanding the capacity for nervous system awareness.

Join me for a body scan with no expectation to change or adjust anything!

Small correction: I meant the sympathetic response, not ventral vagal

The fawn response deserves more conversation, especially in wellness settings where the feeling of power dynamics can impact consent, communication, and the felt sense of safety of clients and students.

Follow for more information about trauma-informed massage, yoga, and wellness topics!

Have you heard about the fawn response before?
