Chlorine and pool chemicals are strong irritants that cause the lining of your sinuses to swell and trap mucus. Additionally, water forced into your nasal passages while diving or swimming can carry bacteria, leading to painful summer sinus inflammation or full-blown sinusitis.

Relief tips:
👃Flush your nasal passages with a ⁠sterile saline nasal spray immediately after swimming to wash away chlorine and trapped debris.
👃Use a nose clip to block water from entering your nasal passages entirely.
👃Stay near the surface when you swim to prevent water pressure from forcing bacteria into your sinuses.
👃Colds usually resolve in 7 to 10 days, but if you have a fever or thick, discolored discharge that lasts more than 10 days, you might have an infection.
