Day 1 of a week on the Vermont Long Trail. There is a great deal of anticipation and planning that goes into preparing for a multi day hike and when it all finally starts, it's quite exciting.

Desite rain in the forecast, it held off and we made it to the shelter just before dark.

FYI, if you start the long trail from the southern border, you have to walk a minimum of 3 miles before you get to the start of the long trail.

More adventures to come,

In preparation for a full week on the Long Trail, I did a one-day section hike.

One thing you find out about starting the Long Trail from the south is that the trailhead is 4 miles in from a parking lot in Massachusetts. This adds 4 rather steep miles to your hike before you actually begin.

We did know that before starting, but didn't realize quite how long the initial four miles would take us.

We couldn't have asked for nicer conditions; I should probably do a post just about all the mushrooms I took pictures of.

I had the opportunity to check out some of my new gear and will be making a few adjustments before my next adventure on this trail, which will include staying overnight in shelters and carrying enough food for several days.

If you've done any camping on the Long Trail and have any suggestions, please leave them in the comments. I am open to any hints that you have!

Garden time! This is the first time I've tried to grow garlic. It is hanging in my garage now, and my bikes will never smell the same 🧄🧄🧄🤣.

I am looking up recipes to use all of these Roma tomatoes. The sungolds get eaten as fast as I pick them. Always snackable.

We are also swimming in blueberries 🫐. No need to freeze them either. No matter how many, we eat them.

And I planted just the right amount of zucchini and summer squash. No need to leave any on my neighbors car windshield this year🤣🤣

Now it rains. A good day in the garden.

409 miles and seven days later we dipped our tires in the Mississippi river once again! Valerie Castle and I had many adventures this year.

We ate our way through many towns and took funny pictures with anything interesting we could find.

We endured heat on the first two days in particular, we pedaled into headwinds but mostly enjoyed every moment of the trek across Iowa.

I didn't do a very good job of keeping up with the posts while I was on the route so I will do a bit of catching up now that I'm off of my bike and getting back to reality.

It was a hot one! The goal of the ride was strictly to stay hydrated and to get to the final town, Guthrie Center, safely.

temperatures were upper 90s by early afternoon and this Vermont girl felt mighty toasty.

All of the volunteers and vendors did an excellent job of making sure plenty of water was available.

thinking I should get Terry Cycling to sponsor me on this ride....

RAGBRAI 2026 kicked off in Onawa, Iowa this year and will commence at the Mississippi river next Saturday afternoon.

I'm here once again with my dear friend Valerie Castle who has once again convinced me that riding my bike in 90° weather across Iowa is fun, and she's actually right!

While, I felt physically good after a day of biking the heat did get to me.

I have a great support team and we are all doing great. Starting off before 6 AM is absolutely essential right now.

rest and recover and get ready for day two!

This is the third summer that I have run the Mad Half marathon in Waitsfield, VT.

I'm not a fast runner, but I enjoy a beautiful run and this course is very hilly which I like. It's almost like a hike, but with some downhill running.

I had a great support team and some enthusiastic fans along the course, which is always helpful and much appreciated!

Finished by 10 AM so a lovely brunch in Waterbury topped off an awesome Sunday morning.

As always, the organizers and volunteers did a spectacular job of keeping all of us hydrated, safe, and on the right course.

I celebrated the summer solstice in Montana!

I am thankful to the lovely O'Flynn's who helped me get to Eureka for an amazing weekend with Women Who Explore. I spent 3 full days with around 100 women who recharge the same way I do-in nature!

Astrophotography, watercolor journaling, birding, fly fishing, great food, what else could a woman ask for?

I also had a chance to connect with my NM hiker friends Amanda Salgueiro and Krys || New Mexico || Hiker. I met some fabulous new friends who I hope to explore with more.

Check out the size of the 🔥 bonfire-spectacular!!
